Summary

Escape to a cosy festive bookshop this winter with this pause-resisting and magical treat.

The brand-new feel-good Christmas novel from Sunday Times top 10 best-selling author Jenny Colgan.

Carmen has always worked in her local department store. So, when the gorgeous old building closes its doors for good, she is more than a little lost.

When her sister, Sofia, mentions an opportunity in Edinburgh - a cute little bookshop, the spare room in her house - Carmen is reluctant, she was never very good at accepting help. But, short on options, she soon finds herself pulling into the snowy city just a month before Christmas.

What Sofia didn't say is that the shop is on its last legs and that if Carmen can't help turn things around before Christmas, the owner will be forced to sell. Privately, Sofia is sure it will take more than a miracle to save the store, but maybe this Christmas, Carmen might surprise them all....

wonderful

Gorgeous story that was so interesting as it had different points of View from young to old, different relationships, different cultures, and different belief systems. I liked how the love story didn't overwhelm the plot and there was so much other content to really enjoy. there's were so many interesting characters but I think the focus on the dynamic between sisters was great because sibling relationships of so different to any other in our lives. It was clever how she mirrored and contrasted for two older sisters with the two younger sisters. another fantastic book that has been well read by that I highly recommend to anybody. yes it is set at Christmas time but I think it is easily be listened to any time of year as it was so enjoyable.

Lovely Edinburgh

I loved this book. The narration was brilliant and very clearly spoken. The description of the book shop and the family interaction was perfect. The children’s voices are most endearing. Keeping an eye out for this author.

A little disappointed

I generally love Jenny Colgan’s novels, but this one was a bit disappointing. The story had no grip, it was very monotonous, no highs and lows that keeps your attention. It’s a story that you can run in the background, if you lose attention you will still understand what’s happening, because nothing much happens really.

Just listen to this, you won't regret it

I have laughed aloud many many times while listening to this. I've also gasped once or twice too. It was magnificent. The story is so incrediblg well-written with dialogue following such a natural flow; the main character annoying me in the first chapter or two before growing on me as she grows up and gets her act together. The children are hilarious and were so perfectly acted out by the narrator, along with all the other chracters for that matter.
Such a fabulous story that I could easily listen to it again.

Easy Christmas listening

Gentle feel-good narrative about family relations. The narrator does a pretty good job with all the voices and I liked her accent. It really brings the city of Edinburgh alive.
