Summary

The fourth novel in the acclaimed cult-favorite series starring necromancer Johannes Cabal

Horst Cabal has risen from the dead - again.

Horst, the most affable vampire one is ever likely to meet, is resurrected by an occult conspiracy that wants him as a general in a monstrous army. Their plan is to create a country of horrors, a supernatural homeland. As Horst sees the lengths to which they are prepared to go and the evil they cultivate, he realizes that he cannot fight them alone. What he really needs on his side is a sarcastic, amoral, heavily armed necromancer.

As luck would have it, this exactly describes his brother.

Great narration of dry humour.

The story and the plot is decent enough, but the reason this entire series is worth your time is the humour and the narration. Perfectly dry,

Best of the series

In my opinion, I think this book is the best in the series. Full of dry humour that I really enjoyed.
Not really necessary to read the other books in the series in the order they was written as the author gives a short, brief synopsis of events that happened in the other books.

I really love these books, dark and very funny

I’m so glad I discovered the series. The writing is brilliant with lots of very funny sardonic lines.

Another great story.

The humour in these book just suits me. And the storylines conjure amazing pictures, twists and turns. It's nice to be surprised sometimes.

Ahhh it's knitted

Previous books in this series, whilst being quite decent and accompanied by supportive narration, have seemed to miss....... something. For myself, I believe that this particular book has definitely found that something, and has rolled it up, smoked it, then digested it, to finally deliver to the audience, a much more (you must excuse me as I'm half drunky whilst writing this) rounded and complete piece of work.
It didn't need much, just the inclusion of an additional thought here, or a slight witticism there (very hard to balance). I think Herr Howard hits the bullseye with this one. It has made me happy, which is rather splendid.

Deliciously wicked good fun

the best by far in the Caball series. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Tha author has a wonderful imagination, with a wicked sense of humour. Funny, witty and engaging, from the richness of the characters to the telling of the story by the excellent narrator. Absolutely marvellous!

Somewhat marred by small faults in the narration

The narrator doesn't manage the accents too well, Johannes, slight German accent in particular, and there are quite a few misprononciations eg lead (as in the element Pb) instead of lead as in 'in front' , which are really irritating. Otherwise the narration is fine.

A bit wandering, and lots of narrator errors

The story is interesting and entertaining in parts, but takes a long time to get to the point. The narrator obviously doesn’t recognise many of the word that the author uses, and either mispronounces them badly, or substitutes words that look similar but mean something totally different. This really shouldn’t have passed even a basic editorial check; I assume that nobody bothers to proof the audio before releasing it.
