About this listen
Trudell Becket, known to her friends as Tru, finds herself in a bind when her library in lovely Cypress, South Carolina, is turned into a state-of-the-art bookless "technological center". A library with no books breaks Tru's book-loving heart so she decides to rescue hundreds of beloved tomes slated for the town dump. Under the cover of darkness, Tru, along with her best friends - coffee shop owner Tori Green and mysterious best-selling author Flossie Finnegan-Baker - set up a secret bookroom in the library's basement and prepare to open it to their most loyal, trustworthy patrons.
But as Tru and her crew are putting the finishing touches on their new book room, the town manager, who was behind the big push for the library's transformation, is crushed by an overturned shelf of DVDs. Tru becomes the prime suspect as she hadn't hid the fact that she hated having all of those wonderful books replaced by tablets and computers.
Tru knows she's in a heap of trouble, and it doesn't help that the officer in charge of the case is her old crush from high school, who broke her teenaged heart. To keep herself out of jail and her beloved bookroom up and running, Tru - with the help of Tori, Flossie, and a brown tabby stray cat named Dewey Decimal - decides to investigate.

Don't judge a book by its cover
I am a big fan of my kindle but remember my local library with fond memories, so I was horrified at the idea of a library with no books and thought for once a real motive for murder. I really enjoyed this book and have already added the next book to my must read list. I liked the characters, especially Tru and her secret mission to save books and kittens. There was a lot of suspicion surrounding her friends unusual behaviour to add to the drama of who to trust but to be honest the killer and motive was no surprise. I still enjoyed it and think it was more because of the characters themselves than the mystery, which is unusual as I am usually all about the mystery. Nancy Drew would be proud of Trudell's trap laying skills.
A library without books is hard to imagine, which is why librarian Trudell and her friends break in to the library to save as many books ment for the landfill as they can. While they are busy stocking the basement shelves someone is toppling a bookshelf on to the man whos idea it was to replace all of the books with computers and tablets. If Trudell confesses about who was there and why her secret library project will be revealed and all her hard work was for nothing. Unless she can work out who the killer was, that is. If Nancy Drew, a college student can catch a killer then surely a well read librarian with a cat can too?
I liked the narrator. She helped to bring the characters to life and make the story jump off the pages.
