Summary

Ostensibly written by an English knight, The Book of Marvels and Travels claim to recount his experiences in Egypt, the Levant, India, and China. It describes a journey from Europe to Jerusalem and further into Asia, and the many weird and wonderful peoples and practices of the East. The author claims to have traveled in land populated by Amazons, dog-headed people, cannibals, one-footed tribes, and Pygmies.

This work was widely known and used by Columbus, Leonardo da Vinci, and Martin Frobisher, and inspired writers like Defoe, Coleridge, and Swift. An enchanting blend of absurdity, fact, and exaggeration, the audiobook offers fascinating insight into 14th-century European perceptions of the world.

A disappointing interpretation

My worst Audible experience, and on a subject in which I was developing an interest. It was a difficult text, but the delivery left me annoyed and frustrated.
Perhaps the American accent contributed, but the pronunciation and mispronunciation grated and the interpretation irritated. I shall take more care over selection of production in all future Audible books
