About this listen
Throughout the 1940s, forgers helped thousands of children escape Nazi France. In this instant New York Times bestseller, Kristin Harmel reimagines their story...
Perfect for fans of The Tattooist of Auschwitz, The Librarian of Auschwitz and The Book Thief.
In 1942, Eva is forced to flee Paris after the arrest of her father, a Polish Jew. Finding refuge in a small mountain town, she begins forging identity documents for Jewish children escaping to neutral Switzerland. But erasing people comes with a price, and along with a mysterious, handsome forger named Rémy, Eva realises she must find a way to preserve the real names of the children who are too young to remember their own identities.
When Rémy disappears and the resistance cell they work for is betrayed, the records they keep in The Book of Lost Names become even more crucial to remembering the truth...
A present day discovery of the book leaves researchers fascinated by its origins and desperate to decipher its codes. Only Eva holds the answer but will she have the strength to face old memories and help reunite those lost during the war?

La Bicyclette Bleue vibes for me!
A beautiful story about love and loss during a fascinating period of Europe's history. Moving between a modern day setting and France during the terrifying Nazi occupation I fell in love with the female protagonist and her commitment to fighting for life and love with all her heart.

Just average
No great plot twists, predictable love story, predictable villain and an annoying mother. The start was intriguing and I was fascinated by the forgery, secret library and coded book elements. Katherine Press has a lovely voice. Overall, however, disappointing character and story development.

We must never forget
This book held my attention and kept me company over two days whilst walking, decorating, sewing, cooking and whatever else I was doing. I didn’t want to put it down.
The characters are all very believable and, although I don’t know if it is based on a true story, there must be many such tales of the people involved in the French resistance that ARE true. They were incredibly brave and their courage helped to save a large number of innocent children whose fate would otherwise have been terrible.
I will now look for other books my Kristin Harmel and I must also mention the two narrators - Francine Brody and Katherine Press, both of whom brought the story to life beautifully.
