Summary

The sea dragons are returning, and Joron Twiner's dreams of freedom lie shattered. His Shipwife is gone, and all he has left is revenge.

Leading the black fleet from the deck of Tide Child, Joron takes every opportunity to strike at his enemies, but he knows his time is limited. His fleet is shrinking, and the Keyshan's Rot is running through his body. He runs from a prophecy that says he and the avian sorcerer, the Windseer, will end the entire world.

But the sea dragons have begun to return, and if you can have one miracle, who is to say that there cannot be another?

Great story, immersive narration,

Absolutely loved this entire trilogy, so many times a reveal or twist happened that I never saw coming but makes perfect sense.
the characters are brilliant and you really connect with members of the crew.

I felt the narration really suited the story.

I have given 4 stars instead of 5 as throughout the trilogy the extra abilities of some of the characters have been subtle and somewhat believable and I felt elements of the last few chapters wernt in keeping.

excellent series, slightly iffy narrator

A great series of books slightly spoiled by the narrator. even after nearly 60 hours I'm not 100% sure whether the ship was called Tide Child or Tired Child. The proofer should have picked up some really basic errors, like pronouncing basic word wrong (quay pronounced as kway instead of key, that kind of annoying thing)

Good fantasy/Naval crossover anyway, even if the author had pinched a few set pieces straight from Master and Commander : CHEEKY!

Compelling Story

Fantastic for many reasons. A simple, understated performance from the narrator does just enough to entertain, without distracting from the story. The story itself is well paced and engaging. A page turner if i had pages!

Speechless

It’s taken me 2 weeks to write this review. I couldn’t find the words to convey how DAMNED GOOD this book and by extension the series was.

I’m going to miss Jordon, Lucky Meas and the Gullaime. Some of the best characters written,

Beautifully narrated by Jude Owusa.

I’ve read some excellent books this year but this is head and shoulders above them all. Thank you RJ Barker. I cannot wait to see what you come up with next.

the best story for a long time

Excellent story, completely absorbing and very well structured. polished off by the best reading of a novel I've heard since my father read the hobbit to me.
