excellent book and well performed!

admittedly lost concentration a few times as some parts were slow and/or dull.. BUT i found myself back tracking as i soon learned they were important to the story!! very good book, very good story, and very good performance!!!

Aquitaine Progression - brilliant

I loved this book almost as much as I disliked Ludlum's The Bourne Identity. The Aquitane Progression is full of suspense and manages to be both descriptive and fast paced at the same time. The plot is on the edge of fantastic - just the thing to appeal to conspiracy theorists, but a jolly good romp for all that.

The only aspect which I felt could have been worked better was the dialogue between Converse and his ex wife towards the latter part of the book; it felt quite stilted and fake.

I thought Rob Shapiro was very believable as the narrator of this book.

Blast from the past

I read this book when it came out, (such a long time ago) and it felt so in time. A perfect summer holiday book to disappear into. Upon having gone through roughly 45 audio books during Covid lockdown, I found this book again. At almost 29 hours and with the masterful Rob as narrator, I was truly hooked again as a lifetime ago. "Old, but not so old".
Try this on your walks, in the car, whenever. It is a throwback well worth it and the story sucks you in, relentlessly, I mean it.

Brilliant Book As Good If Not Better Than Bourne!

Took a couple of chapters to get into and then there was no stopping. Really complex and clever story lots of twists and turns. Great character development and really believable situation.

I'd tried reading a Ludlum that wasn't Bourne before and disliked it so was apprehensive about this but all my fears were allayed and I really got into it, listening at every available moment.

Great Story, Fabulous Narration

Typical Ludlum: plot within a plot within a plot. The narration is excellent. Rob Shapiro is very expressive and his vocalisations of the characters are just great.

Far too much detail

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This started with an intriguing plot and had the makings of a good book. But it seemed to be an edifice built on sand - even the analogy with the old Aquitaine Empire was tenuous. Huge amounts of irrelevant details, leading to a book so long it required constant repetition of the basic plot and characters in case the reader had forgotten what was going on. And some spectacularly bad decisions by a hero who we had been led to believe was very bright, led to a disappointing finale.

Any additional comments?

If you have a long car journey to get through, this will deliver, and Joel's frustratingly bad decisions will stop you falling asleep at the wheel. Otherwise, select a book with more substance.
