About this listen
Best-selling children's book writer Angelica is amused and flattered at the attention of Jack, the owner of a vineyard in South Africa, whom she meets at a dinner party. With his easy charm and reputation as a ladies' man, Jack makes her feel good about herself - surely it can't do any harm to indulge in a mild email flirtation?

Wonderful
This is is a must to read book. I was smiling and laughing through this book, which was enhanced by the fabulous reading of Jilly Bond. I was able to visualise the story as it was laid out. Highly recommend this book

Thoroughly enjoyable!
Beautifully constructed, it flowed perfectly; and I lost myself in the characters and plot. Highly recommend, it made me laugh out loud in parts! Going to listen to another Santa Montefiore novel... Blissful!

Loved it
This book was so enjoyable, my first by this author but hope to read more. The female friendship group were delightful. I also loved that a visit to Birdworld in Farnham found its way into the novel. I highly recommend both Birdworld and the book.

Worth a listen as it was free
I wouldn’t waste a credit though.
The story was good but the narrators South African accent was so incredibly annoying, I nearly had to abandon listening. Not one of her best stories and found myself disliking the main character intensely for getting involved with another woman’s husband. Rich bored housewife

Umh not what I expected.
Would you listen to The Affair again? Why?
I only just discovered Santa and having read "The French Gardener" I was really looking forward to this but it didn't quite come up to the previous standard. However I'm not letting it put me off and will try another of her books.
What other book might you compare The Affair to, and why?
I felt this book was a little dated and far fetched, and if I'm honest a bit boring and a let down in several places, I can't think of a book to compare it with.
What does Jilly Bond bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Jilly Bond gives a good performance, and appears to try and bring a little life into the more mundane parts, I like to listen to her and would certainly try to find other books she has narrated.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes I did laugh in places, and it has its sad parts too. The husband does very little to endear himself to the listener and at times I would liked to have boxed his ears.

Thought-provoking
I enjoyed this in the end. There were parts that I want so keen on and I wasn’t too keen on some of the characters. But overall this was a good story which held my attention and I liked the life morals in it regarding searching for the perfect happiness. Thought-provoking. Audio was ok but some of the south-African accents grated a bit. Have read a lot by this author now and all are usually good, strong stories and this was no exception.

A warning to us all….
Angelica is a spoilt, rich b**** with too much time on her hands. She shouldn’t have had the affair and should have stayed faithful to her husband and put her children’s happiness before her own. I found her rich friends equally annoying.
Santa Montefiore is an excellent writer but I didn’t think this was one of her best stories although the way she captures all the emotions a woman tempted into adultery feels was believable.
Jilly Bond’s South African accents were not good and grated on me particularly at the beginning of the story.
