Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The highly anticipated new book from Malcom Gladwell, host of the chart-topping podcast Revisionist History.

With original archival interviews and musical scoring, this enhanced audiobook edition of Talking to Strangers brings Gladwell’s renowned storytelling to life in his unparalleled narrating style.

The routine traffic stop that ends in tragedy. The spy who spends years undetected at the highest levels of the Pentagon. The false conviction of Amanda Knox. Why do we so often get other people wrong? Why is it so hard to detect a lie, read a face or judge a stranger's motives?

Through a series of encounters and misunderstandings - from history, psychology and infamous legal cases - Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual adventure into the darker side of human nature, where strangers are never simple and misreading them can have disastrous consequences.

No one challenges our shared assumptions like Malcolm Gladwell. Here he uses stories of deceit and fatal errors to cast doubt on our strategies for dealing with the unknown, inviting us to rethink our thinking in these troubled times.

Critic reviews

"I love this book...reading it will actually change not just how you see strangers, but how you look at yourself, the news - the world. Reading this book changed me." (Oprah Winfrey)

Uncomfortable but brilliant

This book has made me listen to some of the most uncomfortable and thought-provoking stories that I never thought I would read. However the analysis of this has been phenomenal and is possibly the one book I would recommend everybody reads this year.

Great listen

This book was really interesting and I enjoyed Mr Gladwell’s narration. It did appear to skip a few time and the music in the background was a little off putting as I kept thinking my phone was playing up ? All round well worth it though . Thank you

An Instant Classic

Another classic by Malcolm Gladwell. Deeply thoughtful and anlytical without ever feeling cumbersome or difficult to follow. Gladwell's writing delivers profound insights wrapped in a web of stories that are as engaging as they are profound. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the numerous lessons it provided.

I appreciate the way he holds your hand through all the statistics and analysis and leads you to conclusions and really powerful insights through storytelling

Truly thought provoking.

Obscure research woven into a full mental reboot

Typical Gladwell. Humane, insight- packed challenge to dogmatic simplicities. See the world afresh and learn a ton on the may.

Exceeded Expectation, Clearing An Already High Bar

A tough subject to dissect and to listen to, but oh so necessary for all who deal with strangers and all who care about the future of society. I've listened to all of Malcolm's books and this was by far the most emotionally challenging but also the most important. I hope he lives forever, never retires and keeps pushing the envelope. Thank you.
