About this listen

The Eat, Pray, Love for busy executives, Take Off Your Shoes invites the listener to join a journey of self-rediscovery.

If 10 Percent Happier made you more mindful, and Wild more adventuresome, then this book will ground you and help you find your soul.

A hard-charging CEO of a large enterprise, Ben Feder discovers that he is losing the very things that sustained him over his years of business success. Unsettled by his insight and determined to rebuild family relationships and rejuvenate his sense of purpose, he risks his career on a life-altering physical and emotional journey. Together with his wife and children, Feder sets off for an exotic island on a self-prescribed sabbatical year. That experience transforms them all.

The writing is honest and moving, baring the author’s innermost struggles and fears, and enticing the reader to share his quest. As Feder navigates the thrills and pitfalls of his time away, he draws us into remarkable examinations of values and priorities in adult life.

Thoughtful and thought provoking

Bravery is the theme that comes to mind. This man was locked and almost hypnotised by the constant grind of the corporate world.

Many of us would love to ‘stop the merri-go-round’ and enjoy life. We have small tastes of this on the weekend or on holiday. We think it’s enough, but honestly we know it’s not.

We screw ourselves over. The media drives us to desire expensive items and the financial world allows easy credit to attain them. Then we are caught in an long term fear. Fear of stopping the grind for the fear of losing what we have accumulated, and the possessions we feel define us.

This book allows new thoughts. “That sounds amazing what he’s done. Could I do that?”.

We balance the possibility of his life against the fear we hold constant.

Allow yourself to be a little brave. Start thinking a little differently. Be open to wild ideas like ‘dropping it all’.

Whilst we may not be able to commit to a sabbatical as he does in this book. What we can do is change our perspective. We can start to consider different braver directions.

A lovely, gentle, and touching book. If as a parent in the corporate world you are wondering “am I happy?”, then start to absorb books like this.

Personally I’ve committed to yoga and meditation already so wonderful timing. This book is soul food for my hopes.

Meditation and yoga are skills to develop like any thing, but something inside follows. A confidence that the right answers will come to you. As they did for Ben.

Not sure what it exists.

Tried to read this in Bali, I just didn’t understand what the point of the book was. His family went to Bali for 6 months, he went on a few bike rides.
