About this listen

When your life falls apart, all you need is a friend…

Abbie Finch loves her job.

Unfortunately, her boss doesn’t love her.

When she finds herself unexpectedly unemployed, Abbie realises that she’s let all her friendships fall by the wayside and has no one to turn to.

Lost and lonely, Abbie decides to leave her comfort zone and join the neighbourhood café’s community table. There she meets aloof, elegant Ethel, down-on-his-luck Bob, colourful, chaotic Dawn and recently relocated Viraj. Friends? Not yet. But when they decide to help the homeless people in their community by staging an extravagant fundraising event, will something that began as a good deed help Abbie find a way back to herself—and make lifelong friends at the same time?

beautiful story of inclusivity and self discovery

I was put off by the voice of the narrator as she sounded like she was putting on the voice of a child, but I am so glad I persevered as the story itself was wonderful and she brought the other characters to life beautifully.

Lovely uplifting story

This was a lovely story & highlights how easy it is to become homeless & how we can all help. The narration by Daisy May Cooper was excellent and really bought the characters to life - absolutely loved Dawn.

help the homeless help yourself

I found the story relatable the author showed us how you can be lonely even though having friends ie superficial firiends not real friends who delight in your misfortune and who you can't turn to in a crisis The misconceptions you have of people who are different to you and the idea that the homeless have become homeless becuase of their bad choices not circumstances loved all the characters but the homeless I couldn't imagine noone telling him he smelt and should shower more and they were friends

Friendships

This book holds a universal truth- If you take time to get to know people, you will like them and eventually grow to love them.
It is nice to be reminded of this.

Assumptions and finding where you belong

It took me a little while to get into the book and the narrator, but once I did, I then thoroughly enjoyed it. I found myself chuckling regularly and since I often play audiobooks when trying to fall asleep, smiles and laughter occasionally emerged from my pillow in the early hours of the morning. It dealt lightly and sensitively with a serious topic. I loved the narrator's portrayal of Dawn who I just loved.
