About this listen

"I wouldn't be caught dead kissing you."

“Alex was always something else.”

Bank teller Thomas Riley is the youngest of three brothers, and the only single one. That's not to say nobody's interested.... His ex, hunky Alex, is back in town and wants to see him. But Alex nearly screwed up both of his brothers' lives, and Thomas isn't willing to forgive him easily. There's no way reigniting an old flame can work...right?

“I knew we still had chemistry.”

Moving back to your hometown isn't easy when your ex moves back, too - especially the one that got away. After getting on Thomas's bad side, private detective Alex Walker is determined to at least explain himself. He's not just looking to screw Thomas again. Then, on the ski trails, Thomas falls head over heels for him...more literally than Alex hoped. How can he prove he's trustworthy to the family after spying on both of Thomas's brothers?

“Is it becoming more?”

Becoming boyfriends is risky when Thomas just wants to get ahead in life and Alex is challenging his morals and his fears. If Alex wants to catch Thomas, this time, Alex will have to keep up and change his ways for good. And can Thomas overcome his own fears to come clean to everyone?

Swish is a steamy, stand-alone gay romance novel with a HEA ending and no cliffhanger.

Great handling of multiple tropes

This book combined two of my favorite tropes, the second chance romance and the redemption story. Alex had to make up for his actions toward Thomas' brothers and for up and leaving Thomas years ago. The author handles that story in a completely satisfying manner. We also get to see that Thomas has been hiding his true self all his life and it is clear that he and Alex would never have worked without having separated and both grown up a great deal. I enjoyed finding out all about Thomas, the last of our brothers to get his HEA. There is a wonderful performance here by Michael Dean. It is clear he has thought carefully about the personality of each of the characters and his performance of each is therefore distinct and satisfying.

...and they lived happily ever after

Yay for happy endings! I love these brothers and I loved how these books feel like a family affair. each brother is intertwined with each story and Thomas' story was a second chance at his first love! I found Thomas and Alex wonderful and feel they matched perfectly. They never forgot and found their way back to each other. I felt Thomas' silence and hiding his sexuality was a bit strange but I get where he was coming from once it's explained.

I like how each book gives you a great tease to hook you for the next book. I'm looking forward to hearing what happens next...

Redoing this series on Audible

After nearly 2 years in-between, I'm redoing this series. Love this series and this is the last book in the series and is good. Each book can be read independently but it's also good to read in order as the brothers are always mentioned.

Thomas seems the quietest of the brothers, keeping his private life very quiet even from his brothers, to the point he hadn't come out to them.

Alex is a private detective, but isn't in anyone's good books, especially Thomas's, being his ex high school secret boyfriend.

They do hook up again after years of keeping away from each other.

The whole Riley brothers series are hot. Great narration from Michael Dean, love that these books are 2 points of view.

great book!

I was really looking forward to Thomas 's story and it was so worth the wait!! I loved it! Second chance romance is one of my favorite tropes and it was so well done in this book! Alex and Thomas had amazing chemistry and their love story warmed my heart! I also loved it that the other brothers had story lines too and we got the chance to catch up with them. Fantastic series I highly recommend it. And the narrator is absolutely brilliant.

Another great contemporary romance from E Davies

Alex and Thomas's second-chance romance was so enjoyable and sweet. I've always been a fan of "the one that got away" stories, and these men were the perfect example of a couple who needed to do some growing up before they were ready to commit to each other. I didn't get as much backstory on Alex and Thomas's high school days as I wanted, but I was still able to tell how much these men have changed for the better since then. I thought the overall storyline was paced nicely, whether it was Thomas's workplace dilemma or Alex's PI stakeouts. In terms of the romance, these men had undeniable chemistry right from the start. For me, it felt completely believable for them to fall into a no-strings-attached fling before acknowledging they wanted something more serious, especially given that their first attempt at a relationship didn't pan out. All things considered, it took Alex and Thomas a long time to come around to their feelings, but it was all worth it in the end to see them happily settled together. Michael Dean continues to be a great narrator for these stories, though I do wish his character voices were easier to differentiate.

Loved Thomas and Alex just maybe not together...

Thomas was the brother I was probably most looking forward to reading about. Bookish, quiet, secretive? Sign me up. And then when I found out he was going to be paired with Alex and it was a second chance romance? I was all on board. Unfortunately, while I really enjoyed them both and enjoyed the overall story I just didn’t feel any chemistry between these two. It seemed more like they were just getting together because they had been together before. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more to read each of their stories individually with other love interests.

Worth the listen

I enjoyed the listen and it kept me engaged, but overall it was sort of a letdown. Thomas just seemed like such an immature person to me. The reason for the breakup, the reason for being in the closet, for keeping his entire life a secret... it just didn't make sense. I was more interested in the side story of how Cam and Jackson felt about Alex and the drama that surrounded that than I was about Thomas and Alex.

Second chance romance

This is the third book in the Riley Brothers series which centers on brothers Cameron, Jackson and Thomas Riley. This book focuses on Thomas, the youngest of the three brothers, and his second chance romance with his ex, Alex. The basic premise is not particularly novel with the whole high school sweethearts who break up and then years later get back together now that they’ve grown up a bit. I was intrigued by Thomas, though; he’s so introverted and secretive so unpacking all of that baggage with Alex was interesting. However, I didn’t really click with them as a couple; the chemistry was missing. That being said, like the other books in this series, this is a well-written story and I appreciated that we got glimpses of the other brothers in this one.

The narration added a lot here. Michael Dean always does a great job and this book is no exception. The characters have distinct voices, his cadence and pacing are just right, enabling him to achieve just the right delivery for every word he says, and his tone for each character is perfect. I recommend listening and reading to this book for a better experience; without audio, I suspect I may have liked this story less.
