Summary

Halloween in Essex, and things are going well for the writers on the Mystery and Suspense course at Ratchette Hall. Things, however, take a turn when early on All Saints' Day the course administrator is discovered murdered.

The Essex Witch Museum investigators are quickly drafted in. As Rosie Strange and Sam Stone's investigation progresses they find more questions than answers: who is making the howling noises late into the night? What is the strange glimmering glimpsed in the woods? Why is one of the church crusaders missing a finger? And what of the enigma of the ancient empty tomb?

When another writer turns up dead, the pair must use their experience of folklore, mystery and magic to solve the mystery.

4 books in one month. All good reads!

So, I’m a massive fan of audio books and I enjoyed this series so much, I finished the lot in a month of commuting and genuinely laughed out loud often.
Following Rosie’s story so far has been very entertaining. I’m very much looking forward the next step and walking through another spooky mystery in Rosie’s cowboy boots!

Still funny

I thought book 3 was better, in story and humour but still a good book.

Halloween, ghost writers, an old house and murder

I absolutely loved Tombs, my maiden name was Ann Bartholomew ( see chapter one) :) which is why I gave five stars for everything:D
seriously though, this is such a good tale, it has everything, an old house, a Ghost writers retreat, full of interesting, quirky characters, a murder, and it’s Halloween! ...Rosie and Sam are called in to investigate..there are some intriguing sub plots which makes you so impatient for the next book...I’m always drawing comparison when reading The Strange series...who do they remind me of ? What are there elements of? Tombs has an Agatha Christie feel to it..I even think there’s a few nods to the beloved M R James ...and then it struck me ..Rose and Sam are like Johnathan Creek and Maddie but in reverse..there’s the same humour, underlying romantic tensions, combined with quick wit, humour and then bam! Something evil this way comes! If I were a TV producer, I would grab this series with both hands. With the right actors this would be an absolute hit ...TV producers take note! :)

Outside of the museum

This book gives a look at life outside of the museums home comforts. It interacts the real with the fiction . After listening to this book I began my own homework on facts. The author really goes the extra mile for the finer details. I do believe I actually learn historic details from these books. Very impressed

Rosie rides again

Halloween and a strange death brings Rosie and Sam to a writers retreat at the request of Monty Walker. Has fiction become reality and is there more to this story than meets the eye. Rosie solves this mystery, but will she ever solve her own mysterious past!

Sound and editing

I was starting to hear a high pitch whine and Julia Barrie’s corrections haven’t been edited out. Interesting to hear from the perspective of hearing how it’s done, repeat of sentence with different emphasis, but means sentences are repeated. I love her delivery though so this is minor. Enjoyed the story xx

Loved it. easy to listen to, humorous whodunnit with a bit of supernatural thrown in for good measure.
Can't wait for the next book. Who is Sam? Will Rosie & Sam ever get together?
