Summary
Led by Wedge Antilles, the legendary pilots of Rogue Squadron prepare to risk everything in their battle against the Empire.
Sleek, swift, and deadly, they are the X-wing fighters. And as the battle against the Empire rages across the vastness of space, the pilots risk both their lives and their machines for the cause of the Rebel Alliance. Now they must embark on a dangerous espionage mission, braving betrayal and death on the Imperial homeworld to smash the power of a ruthless foe!
It is the evil heart of a battered and reeling Empire: Coruscant, the giant city-world from whose massive towers the Imperial High Command directs the war. The Rebels will invade this mighty citadel in a daring move to bring the Empire to its knees. But first Wedge Antilles and his X-wing pilots must infiltrate Coruscant to gain vital intelligence information. Capture means death, or worse—trapped in the clutches of the vicious leader known as “Iceheart,” Ysanne Isard, now Emperor in all but name.
And one of Rogue Squadron’s own is already her slave, a traitor hidden behind a mask of innocence, working to betray both colleagues and the Rebellion itself.

Story of how the Rebels took Imperial Centre
This is the story of how the Rebels forces took over what was known as Imperial Centre, or Coruscant.
To do this Rogue Squadron must infiltrate themselves into Coruscant society under a variety of different cover identities and in small groups.
There are of course a number of Rebel intelligence operatives already on the planet which work with the separated sections if Rogue Squadron to achieve their objectives. Through the efforts of the Rebels a number of attempts to bring down the planetary shields are made so that the Rebel fleet will be able to take over the planet when they arrive.
However, the head of Imperial intelligence Ysanne Issard knows the Rebels are present on Imperial Centre and is planning to allow them to take over the planet, but not until the secret virus she is having General Dericote developing is ready.
Eventually the members of Rogue Squadron and the Rebel intelligence agents manage to cause a huge storm using an orbital mirror, this causes lightening that shirts out the planetary shields just as the Rebel fleet, led by Admiral Akbar arrive in orbit.
However during a dogfight whilst Rogue Squadron are attempting to cause the storm, Corran Horn finds that his fighter is seemingly under the control of somebody else and he is no longer able to control where it flys. It then crashes and Corran is seemingly killed.
However in the epilogue, this is shown to be not true and Corran is actually being held prisoner by Issard. But the epilogue is not part of the audio book.

The narrator is very good, the music and effects are a nice touch too. A nice addition to the Star Wars universe.

I really enjoy the X-wing books
I really enjoy these books but I feel like these abridged versions cut out to much, it messes with the pace and it's easy to sometimes get lost in relation to what each character is doing. Unabridged versions would be more than welcome and feel like better value as I feel these books are too short. I find I really enjoy Henry Thomas's performance and his voice suits Corran in his early books and would have like him to narrate the book I, Jedi over Anthony Heald who did that book.
