Summary
Everyone enjoys peace and tranquility, and Victor Bayne is no exception. He goes to great lengths to maintain a harmonious home with his partner, Jacob. Although the cannery is huge, it's grown difficult to avoid the elephant in the room...the elephant with the letters FPMP scrawled on its hide.
Once Jacob surrendered his PsyCop badge, he infiltrated the Federal Psychic Monitoring Program. In his typical restrained fashion, he hasn't been sharing much about what he actually does behind its vigilantly guarded doors. And true to form, Vic hasn't asked. In fact, he would prefer not to think about the FPMP at all, since he's owed Director Dreyfuss an exorcism since their private flight to PsyTrain.
While Vic has successfully avoided FPMP entanglement for several months, now his debt has finally come due.

Outstanding story and narration!
First, I must say I love the audiobook cover art for this story.
Once again the superb narration by Gomez Pugh kept me enthralled from start to finish. He has made this wonderful series truly outstanding. The pace and tone are spot on. I love the way he delivers Vic’s sarcastic and witty lines. In fact, he is Victor Bane and always will be. I adore the brilliant characterisation of each person with their distinctive voices and I especially love the voice Gomez Pugh gave to Jacob. So sexy!
You really need to read/listen to the previous six stories in this series to fully appreciate the events and characters in this epic instalment.
Spook Squad is a lengthy and complex story, with fabulous and unexpected twists along the way. So much happens in a JCP novel. Her writing is marvellous and draws you into each and every scene. The characters are well-developed and some surprise us here. The dialogue is real and engaging, and the world-building is excellent.
The main plot of this story centres around Vic identifying and exorcising the repeaters in Con Dreyfuss’s office at the FPMP building as payback for a favour from the previous story. There’s so much else going on, though. The exorcism scenes throughout this book are thrilling. I love how JCP has developed Vic’s psychic abilities and that Jacob is often there to assist him. Their connection is so deep they can almost read each other’s minds.
Indeed, we are treated to quality time when Vic and Jacob are together, and that is super hot and special. You can almost feel the love, passion, and trust that flows between these two lovers when they interact.
I’m looking forward to the next story as I’m sure there’s plenty of work left for Vic and Jacob to do, plus I need to know what’s going to happen to Crash.

I suggest reading the series in order.
What did you like most about Spook Squad?
Characterisation is brilliant, JCP is careful to continue previous themes and tendencies and develop her protagonists while they deal with events. A complex novel which easily justifies its length because several issues are resolved and an arc ends.
What did you like best about this story?
The resolution of previous storylines. The low-key wit and the narrator's ability to deliver the right tone.
Have you listened to any of Gomez Pugh’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Yes - this is just as good as the others. It is hard to distinguish the narrator from the character of Vic, so perfectly does Gomez Pugh convey the character.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I've no idea - can't possibly convey anything accurate about the book in a few words.
Any additional comments?
The writing is so good that many narrators could do a decent job of this book but Gomez Pugh is much better than that. He really takes you completely into the story and you can relax there.

Great fun
Just like the last six books in the Psycop series, I was blown away by Gomez Pugh's narration.
Psycop Victor Bayne was playing hookie from the 5th precinct again, this time he was working off his debt to Con Dreyfuss, and trying to clear the ghosts from his office. The mystery of who the ghosts were and how they met their ends consumed Vic and most of the plot. But the best bit was when Vic and Jacob were working together. I love it when Vic and Jacob work together. They are becoming a wonderful partnership, and not only in the bedroom.
I felt sorry for Jacob in this book though. He didn't get much lovin' and he didn't get much air time either. There was more of a focus on Vic's relationship with his ex cop partner Lisa. Their was way too much of Vic's unhealthy connection to Lisa. They real didn't know each other well at all, and yet he let her move in. If I'd just moved into a new house...my first ever real home, with a lover. Would i really want another person camped out in a tent in the living room? Jacob deserves better than that. Vic's compulsion to keep Lisa close worried me, and I was relieved at the end, when her story goes in another direction.
I really hope the next book harnesses the strengths of Vic and Jacob as a team, and Crash for slutty, comic effect. There is still so much mileage left in this series, and It felt like, at the end, the characters were all on the cusp of big changes. I can't wait to read /listen towhat happens.
