Summary

Complete and chilling erasure of women
A French Handmaid’s Tale this is not. But Houellebecq’s insidiously soft, non-violent story of a devastating overthrow of western values - which manages to completely erase women from any meaningful existence in society or public life - left me feeling equally sick at heart and uneasy.
Masterfully written and brilliantly read.

Great book but why is it in French?
Kept finding myself ticking-off the narrator as I marched around the supermarket listening to this one: “God’s sakes, speak English!”
Houellebecq is a brilliant writer but his books just sound silly in a foreign language.
