The year is 1999. Returning to practice after a suspension for stealing opioids, a young Scottish doctor takes the only job he can find: a post as a senior house officer in the struggling east London hospital of St Luke’s.
Amid the maelstrom of sick patients, over-worked staff and underfunded wards a darker secret soon declares itself: too many patients are dying.
Which of the medical professionals our protagonist has encountered is behind the murders? And can our unnamed narrator’s version of the events be trusted?

Very good book.
I am a nurse, so it was good to hear a story that had reality of details.
Good story, and narrator is really good. Interspersed are factual accounts of actual medical murderers.
An unusual book but a very good listen.

A surprise find
This was a wild card purchase. I read the reviews and thought it was worth a listen. Brilliant narration (a little over dramatic at times), good quality production and excellent writing. Pleased to have discovered another author. Thoroughly enjoyed this.

Chilling…
…and not just for the well constructed murder mystery, which, itself, is well told by the author, and extremely well voiced by this appropriate sounding narrator. But why do we continue to treat medical staff (& this is under all governments & in more than just the UK) in this way, such that the ones who actually survive & remain in the profession are, by that time, so exhausted, worn out, damaged or dependent on intoxicants of whatever sort, that they cannot be functioning properly? Every profession, to some extent, ill treats its entrants, but there is surely no other profession where it’s as extreme or as counter-productive? Sorry: big long rant - don’t let it put you off this interesting & exciting book.

Good story, great narrator
The detachment of the story teller keeps you guessing till the end. Good twist; great characterisation.
