About this listen
Social Engineering: The Science of Human Hacking reveals the craftier side of the hacker's repertoire - why hack into something when you could just ask for access? Undetectable by firewalls and antivirus software, social engineering relies on human fault to gain access to sensitive spaces; in this book, renowned expert Christopher Hadnagy explains the most commonly used techniques that fool even the most robust security personnel and reveals how these techniques have been used in the past.
The way that we make decisions as humans affects everything from our emotions to our security. Hackers, since the beginning of time, have figured out ways to exploit that decision making process and get you to take an action not in your best interest. Networks and systems can be hacked, but they can also be protected; when the "system" in question is a human being, there is no software to fall back on, no hardware upgrade, no code that can lock information down indefinitely. Human nature and emotion is the secret weapon of the malicious social engineering, and this book reveals how to recognize, predict, and prevent this type of manipulation by taking you inside the social engineer's bag of tricks.

A really interesting insight into SE
I found this a very enjoyable listen, and while it’s not a career path I am considering myself, the discussions around human nature and how it can be influenced were very interesting. Worth a second listen for sure.

An entertaining and informative listening for all audiences
I don’t think I will ever be involved in this industry, but that doesn’t matter when listening. The author was very skilled in making this an approachable book, with it at points feeling like a spy novel instead of reality. The stories the author tells are very entertaining and it is mind boggling what can be achieved.
I would also note that the author does a good job of summarising the key points of what a story is demonstrating, and I can see how this book would be of great value to someone interested in the field.

excellent, thought provoking
So many ways to make even every day life better if one adopted his techniques or, took them to heart and adapted them into their own. I highly recommend everyone read this for basic behavioral cues for improved socializing in personal and professional environments.

surprisingly good
I think in this book you can find a few things that can be applied to day-to-day life. so you're going to make your life better in different kind of aspects. some of the topics that I've listened to in this book are really worth investigate it or researching a bit more about them and understand them better. overall, I didn't expect the book to be this intriguing and so captivating. so most likely I'm going to listen one more and take off your notes for myself. the book is totally worth it

Very Important and Impressive
As someone who is very much interested in SE, Cyber Security and all the bells and whistles that go with that area, I have to say, this book was excellent. Chris, the author has clearly been an expert in this field for a long time. I believe many organisations need this type of awareness as I find it fascinating. I only wish there were options for a SE career where I am!
Highly recommend the listen, I am probably going to buy the physical copy now, it'll be a great reference point for a couple of figures he mentions.
I found out about the author via darknet diaries podcast, also a great listen if you enjoy this. Chris recommends some further reading of his own and other works, I'll most definitely read those.
5/5 enjoyed it immensely.

Entertaining for non-social engineers
Really educational with great stories and anecdotes. Loved it all, having it narrated by the author makes it so much more engaging too. Makes you consider a lot about both social interactions and security practices that you may be overlooking in your day to day life.

Meh
As if written for naive grandmothers. Below base level. Offers zero value to people with base-level street smarts.

Terrible
Couldn't get through it. Terrible book, not very informative and has some awful attempts at humour. Could likely be summarise in one or two pages.
