Summary

What would you do if you met someone you thought just might be one of Jesus' original disciples still living in the 21st century? That's Jake's dilemma as he meets a man who talks of Jesus as if he had known him, and whose way of living challenges everything Jake had previously known.

So You Don't Want to Go To Church Anymore is Jake's compelling journal that chronicles 13 conversations with his newfound friend over a four-year period and how those exchanges turn Jake's world upside-down. With his help, Jake faces his darkest fears, struggles through brutal circumstances and comes out on the other side in the joy and freedom he always dreamed was possible.

Wow so it's not just me

Such a relief to hear what's on my heart and I'm neither alone in that or going crazy

Good content but a little cheesey

It’s nice to listen to a fictional story with some provoking concepts but it’s fairly cheesey and predictable at times. Still, I found it helpful but would recommend it with a warning.

WARNING! This Lacks Biblical Teaching On Church.

Any additional comments?

In one sense this book is great because the story telling gets your focus back on the Lord instead of all our focus on our churches. So this book is great for all believers in that sense. However what I didn't like about the book was its non biblical approach to church. Yes I could relate to the church criticisms 100% but the book leaves you with a sense that doing faith alone is a good thing and doing church is negative. The bible does not encourage doing faith alone but in community with elders, leaders and those whom God appoints over you. Yes the church is an institution of sorts but we need the discipline of church to encourage us in our daily walk with God. I like some aspects of this book - having been feeling less than disappointed with churches myself, however, I do not believe it is wise to give up on church and go it alone. Isolation is the devils playground. Lastly, there were no bible references to speak of in this book. It all came down to what this fictitious man called John was saying. That is dangerous. In these deceptive days we need to belong to solid biblical churches as we spur each other on in the faith.
