Summary
There is no such thing as happily ever after.
Everything Charlotte Winston thought she knew has been thrown out the window. From the moment she opens her eyes, the world she remembered ceases to exist, and in its place is a post-apocalyptic realm filled with unimaginable dangers. And one very smoking hot guy who has an uncanny ability to make her blood sing, then boil in a blink of an eye.
Dash Darhk is everything her parents would hate. He's six feet and two inches of dark temptation and a killer smile, that's surely left a stream of broken hearts in his wake. But her parents are nowhere to be found. Charlotte is alone in this new world. Destroyed by a toxic mist, the land isn't the only thing altered, but the inhabitants as well.
As Charlotte begins the hunt for her family, gifts she's never fathom awake inside her. And with the gifts come problems. Enormous ones. Charlotte is running out of options and places to hide. If she can't figure out who to trust - and fast - she will lose more than her heart.
Fans of Hunger Games, The 100, and Divergent will fall in love with Slumber.

Any additional comments?
I have read books by this author and loved them. So when I saw this I had to get my hands on it.
However, I find that I have mixed views about this one. I felt that not a lot happened and they where just running from the enemy. This is more of a romance in my opinion because it is more of should we, shouldn't we. So I found it slow going and frustrating at times. But I did like the powers they had, which I did not expect.
This does end on a cliffhanger, so if you don't like that sort of thing I would wait for the other books to be published before you buy this one.

Maybe better suited for a younger listener
This story was interesting but often annoying as well. I enjoyed the post-mist world that was built with deranged animals and plants and settlements that were reminiscent of earlier times. The twist at the end was totally unexpected. I even liked Dash - the super hot guy.
The annoying thing was Charlottes constant obsession with Dash and dialogue about it. They’re on the verge of being killed and she can only thing about kissing him. All. The. Time. I think a well built man obsession should be shown without the constant dialogue about how hot he is

I definitely recommend checking this book out
I read this book back in 2017 and the story has held up over the years. It was amazing to listen to the incredible world J.L. Weil made be brought to life by the narrators.
I rarely read/listen to dystopian novels but I have no regrets enjoying this story twice! I liked that Charlotte was privileged and she grows into a strong character. It was a nice change of pace from a lot of YA novels I read where the MC starts off as a badass. Charlotte did annoy me at times but Dash's character made up for it.
I definitely recommend checking this book out.

Hooked from start
If you like the hunger games thrills then you will love this book.
I enjoyed listening to the narration and the story and was hooked by each character and the strange new world.
I look forward to listening to the other two books in this triology.
