Summary

Darkness never dies.

Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land, all while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. But she can't outrun her past or her destiny for long.

The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling's game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her - or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.

Liked it

I liked this, I persist to enjoy this Russian style scape and would like to explore this region more. I will admit that I wasn't too keen on some of the new characteristics of the main character. I understand why it was done but I'm not not sure what they added besides uncomfortable relationships. I'll hold out judgement until I finish the last book but it seems a little unecessary to make morotsovas amplifiers like horcruxes in the way they affect your personality. That's probably a personal preference but I don't see the benefit of your main character becoming angry, unlikable and unreasonable.

slow but good build up

this second book is a bit slow but gives more worldbuilding wich is nice. I think they throw out some of the character development out the window for some drama. But overall it's a good 2nd book

great until chapter 18

I actually quite enjoyed this volume until 18 chapter. But then the lovers quarrel happened, caused by miscommunication. It alone together with all the drama that followed, made me drop the rating from 4/5 to 3/5...

Preparing for the endgame.

If you've enjoyed the first book then this second won't disappoint even if it does suffer from being the middle book in the series. You know all the plans will come to nought, as things are setup for the third book.

Narration was good and understandable at x2 playback speed.

Decent again

Found the beginning a little tedious and slow - so glad I could speed it up!! I don't know if I would've got through a paperback. Proceeded to listen to the entire book at 1.5x speed

Decent as background as it doesn't take alot of thought to follow!

more of the same

it's a nice story but a bit predictable and leaves me feeling it lacks a certain something.
