About this listen

The book that started it all....

Supernatural beings exist in Rune Alexander's dark world, and as an agent in her county's law enforcement, it's her job to protect the humans from the various mad vampires, evil shifters, and rogue wolves that roam her city. When she discovers that an unknown human is abusing the supernatural groups, she and her devoted crew must break the rules and protect the Others from the humans - and they begin to realize the real monsters aren't necessarily the vampires or werewolves. The real monsters can be all too human.

Haunted by unbearable, shameful secrets and tormented by her past, she seeks redemption in pain and searches desperately for a sweet absolution that continues to elude her. As she and her crew become embroiled in a bloody battle to save the Others, she can't help but wonder who will save her from herself....

I am my monster....

Not for me. Nowhere near for me.

I started to listen to this twice before. This was the final 3rd attempt with which I finished it. I still feel like I was robbed of my time though and if I were not on long hike and not wanting to close my navigation for the time it would take to choose different listen... Well, I will know better and not start something without backup on a hike next time.
The writing is rather boring at the start (hence me dropping it previously, it just jumped into middle of things). Then it got better for few chapters and I was mildly interested, although the f word thrown in all over the place made the MC come across as very unbalanced, which she is. People like her should not be responsible for a team of people, she is toxic, rather slow on the uptake and needs years of vigorous therapy. The extreme abuse between her and her boss has huge potential to TRIGGER victims of VIOLENCE, especially DOMESTIC and it would be greatly appreciated if such a warning was put ahead of description!!! Amazon should know better and start acting more responsibly about what they sell.
Her calling people sweetheart and baby etc. sounded insincere to me as MC seemed self absorbed and as I wrote in need of therapy, not responsibility. As to the other characters- I never knew which is which as they were all the same. Seriously, there are twins and they are same people as all the other people in the team. I am not sure how many or remember any of their name, they are all just one bloke which is tall, masculine, quiet, hottest in the World and probably great fighter although nowhere near as great as MC obviously, because - you guessed it- she is the UNICORN! Yes, the World´s future lies on her shoulders alone. They are there as her backup dancers to make sure everybody knows that she is the best, but just some plastic palm trees would do the job just as well. I gave this two stars as I appreciate the narrator´s hard work.
I hope no young girls come across this as it gives the worst idea on a self worth. And also hope no men get an idea from books like these on how to treat a woman.
Oh- just one more thing. I hope that author has since writing this grown up and as Dr. Google says she/he/they has son, also realised that it is unacceptable to allow people to grab and inappropriately touch other people without permission. This is not fun to have to put up with, nor to watch. Or would you find it ok if I started to test your son´s muscles or the lack thereof in the public? Sexual harassment is still a sexual harassment, even if done by old woman, do not make it sound fun. It is not. It really is not fun to be put into a situation where you have to pretend this is OK.
