About this listen

Visceral, speculative body horror from the author of BOY PARTS and PENANCE - the first collection from a major voice in British fiction

A teenager longs for perfect skin. A scientist tends to fragile alien flora. A young man takes the night into his own hands. Each of these characters has a desperate desire. Can any of them be sated?

Unsettling, revelatory, and laced with her signature dark humour, Eliza Clark's debut short story collection plumbs the depths of that most basic human feeling: hunger.

'You'll love every story, swallow them whole and lick the plate clean.' Alice Slater
'No one is writing like Eliza Clark.' Nicola Dinan
'Eleven surreal, troubling and frankly gross little worlds. How I loved my time in them.' Saba Sams 'Visceral and transgressive, eerie and playful, sometimes depraved and often laugh-out-loud funny.' Colin Walsh

Captivatingly descriptive

I loved all of the stories but a few will linger with me. She’s an extremely talented young writer tackling some current, ‘woke’ issues I’ve personally not experienced in literature before. I consider myself a fan after listening, already added 2 of her other titles to my wishlist. Loved Eliza reading a few of stories in her Geordie accent ❤️

She does it again

Unbelievable, original writing yet again. Eliza Clark is such a fantastic writer, knowingly understanding her readers and having a unique look into them.

amazing.

Eliza Clark is a generational talent and goes from strength to strength. I started reading her work with Boy Parts and every release she just gets better and better. There are some heavy topics in this one so as always, tread carefully, but the quality of this collection is up there with the best ever written

love Eliza Clarks work, this is excellent

There's so many darkly funny moments in this collection, highlights for me include The King and Goth GF, and She's Always Hungry. All so well performed, and imaginative, disturbing, and funny in turns.

I was trying to cook dinner whilst listening to Little Chitaly and it happened to be a stir fry. I nearly had to throw it away because I was loling so much at the descriptions of noodles.

Loved her work since Boy Parts. 💖

Eliza Clark writes how I feel but would never let myself express, another firm favourite

Another comfort blanket of an audio book from Eliza Clark, something always so visceral and meaty and raw that will stay with me and I will come back to again and again, Penance and Boy Parts are already on regular rotation, this will fit nicely into the mix

Wish some of these stories were novels!

Thoroughly enjoyed this collection of short stories - so much so that I wanted to know more about some of them, and would happily read a novel-length version. Performances were fantastic; very engaging and atmospheric. If you like science fiction, (body) horror, feminism, and dark humour, this is well worth a listen.

short story convert

I'm not usually into short stories but loved a previous novel by this author so gave it a go. I loved it. Each story gave me so much to think about. although I would prefer that each of the stories were full length novels, because I need to know more, I also now appreciated them in this format...
Please at least consider making The King a full length book though 😁
