Summary
There's a new crime boss in town, and he means business. With the city's power balance teetering on a knife's edge, San Diego residents need to watch their step, because one wrong move could be their last.
Seasoned Sergeant James Edwards is a man on the verge of retirement, but when his superior receives wind of a new underground ruler, both his plans and the city's stability spiral into chaos. As Sergeant Edwards is drawn into one final investigation, he discovers a chilling truth: someone is leaking vital info to the gangs, and all the signs point to the same place—a traitor in the department. Meanwhile, Officer Jose Sandoval is torn between loyalty and a particular hunch, growing suspicious of a once-trusted colleague.
Out on the streets, a sly informant tiptoes through landmines, playing both sides by feeding intel to the cops while double-crossing the gangs he's supposed to be serving. For Sergeant Edwards, everything's unraveling—a lost career, a love that slipped away, and a life that was seemingly missing a purpose.
With pressure mounting from every direction, the question is: Can he get to the bottom of the most twisted case he's ever faced? Or will someone else take him down first? Uncover who survives the final play in a city where loyalty is a gamble and trust is a deadly game.

Duty vs. Conscience in Shadows on the Badge
A Crossfire of Conscience is a gripping crime thriller that dives deep into the moral complexities faced by a police officer torn between duty and personal integrity. The novel blends tense, fast-paced action with a nuanced exploration of the ethical dilemmas that arise when an officer is forced to confront corruption within their own department. Through its multifaceted characters and intricate plot, the book paints a stark portrait of the challenges of justice in an imperfect system. The author’s ability to balance suspense with thought-provoking commentary on loyalty, truth, and the cost of standing up for what’s right makes it a compelling read for fans of both crime fiction and psychological drama.

This is quite a thrill ride!
If you enjoy suspense and thrillers, you'll love this book. The story will grab your attention right from the beginning, and it's one of those that keeps you on your toes the entire time. The characters are complex and interesting, and every time you think you know what's going on, be prepared for a new surprise that will prove you wrong. I enjoy movies in this same genre, and this audiobook did not disappoint.

"A Gripping Tale of Crime and Betrayal"
This book had me hooked from the start! As a fan of gritty crime stories, I loved following Sergeant Edwards on his last, chaotic case. The tension between him and his colleagues felt so real, especially with the hint of a traitor in the department. The characters were complex, and the storyline kept me guessing right until the end. It’s a fantastic read if you're into suspense and enjoy the darker side of police work. Highly recommended!
