About this listen
What do I want in a mate? Absolutely nothing.
Silas Jones has no interest in getting a mate, fated or otherwise. At 22, he’s alone in the world...or would be without the quirky pack of desert homesteaders who’ve become his family. Who needs more than that? Not Silas. Everyone else can partner up and risk loving the wrong person; he’s not judging. To each their own, but it’s not what he wants for himself. Ever. Nope, Silas is quite happy being a lone coyote. Maybe one day, it’ll stop feeling lonely in the wee hours. Or he could get a dog.
Daniel Atkins never planned to add stalking his fated mate to his to-do list. But what’s a guy to do when his fated mate takes one sniff in his direction and turns the other way? He’s dying to get all the info on Silas, see what makes him tick and figure out why his mate is so skittish. But first, he needs to get his inner beaver to calm down and stop demanding they keep eyes on their omega.
If Silas is in danger, Daniel needs to be on guard. Hmm... Is it really stalking if he’s keeping a protective watch?
Return to the hills above Cottonwood, Arizona, where every shifter has a bit of special magic and the pack of homesteaders, preppers, and loners who are a lot nosier about each other’s lives than they’d care to admit. Because, no matter their differences, pack means family.
This 31k novella is the second in this short-listen series. This world contains mpreg, but won’t have a birth in every book due to the short timelines. Be prepared for side-splitting laughs, a few tears, shifter-on-shifter violence, and a group of people who know that family always comes first. Also, all the feels you’d expect from a Susi Hawke original.

Aww, Silas is such a sweetheart
I'm loving the fasted pace of this series. Silas is so sweet, caring for everyone before himself! I'm so glad he accepted his mate. I look forward to seeing more of this expanding found family pack and hope Shane finds his HEA!

A fun and easy listening audio.
Hawke's newest in the Desert Homesteaders series is a fun and amusing story. Silas and Daniel are engaging and their dynamic full of laughs. Bacca's narration is once again enjoyable and engaging.

Another winner from Susi.
Silas and Daniel are fated mates, but Silas wants nothing to do with him. However, Daniel is encouraged by the pack Alpha and his mates to be patient, and that's what Daniel does. He stays and starts helping Silas out.
Susi sets up the story and the background stories so quickly that we straight away feel that we know every one of the characters. It definitely helps to read book one first but could be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed every minute of this book.
It has to be read to believe it. Excellent narration by Drew Bacca; seriously, he made the book come alive and does so, so effortlessly.

Don’t want a mate?
Silas is hardworking and a good shifter, but he has trust issues. Then Daniel comes along, his true mate but Silas still doesn’t want anything to do with a mate. Great short listen, good writing and well narrated.

Short and Sweet
Silas and Daniel were very sweet. Silas knew Daniel was his mate, but wasn't ready and didn't want the kind of relationship he'd seen his parents have. So, when they met, he told Daniel no.
Daniel wasn't going to let Silas get away that easy. He stayed. He worked for his trust, he worked for his love, and he finally got what he wanted.
Short, sweet, and perfectly Susi Hawke!

Beautiful
The writing of this one i found to be beautiful it was nicely descriptive for the length of the novel and the characters were well thought out. Daniel certainly won my heart and I will definitely be interested in more books by Susi Hawke as this one was a winner for me.

Settle for Nothing
How does she do it? Susi Hawke manages to get more world-building and character development into a short story than some authors do in 300-page books. It's so good. I was entertained and felt as if I experienced their whole story. I love the characters and the world. Great quick listen on a day I didn't have time for more. Drew Bacca was awesome. I did speed to 1.1-2 depending.

Another fun addition to the series!
As always, Ms Hawke writes entertaining stories and this is no exception. Silas has a good reason to be skittish with regards to relationships, but Daniel proves to be worth changing his mind for....eventually. It was also lovely to hear Sandy and Dottie, (they are a hoot!) as well as the trio from book 1.
Drew Bacca is always a pleasure to listen to. Good range of voices, accents, great timing and cadence. Love the collaboration between him and Ms Hawke!

Love is hard work
Silas hasn't had the best childhood so as a result thinks mates are for the birds.
Daniel just wants to love and protect his mate but Silas won't make it easy for Daniel.
As they get to know one another, Silas begins to realize true love is worth the hard work you put in and sometimes it's worth the blind leap of faith.
Once again with the author's books there is a definite turn for hilarious situations and found family.
Drew Bacca did an amazing job.
