Summary
The world of Faerie never disappeared: it merely went into hiding, continuing to exist parallel to our own. Secrecy is the key to Faerie’s survival—but no secret can be kept forever, and when the fae and mortal worlds collide, changelings are born. Half-human, half-fae, outsiders from birth, these second-class children of Faerie spend their lives fighting for the respect of their immortal relations. Or, in the case of October “Toby” Daye, rejecting it completely.
After getting burned by both sides of her heritage, Toby has denied the fae world, retreating into a “normal” life. Unfortunately for her, Faerie has other ideas. The murder of Countess Evening Winterrose, one of the secret regents of the San Francisco Bay Area, pulls Toby back into the fae world. Unable to resist Evening’s dying curse, which binds her to investigate, Toby is forced to resume her old position as knight errant to the Duke of Shadowed Hills and begin renewing old alliances that may prove her only hope of solving the mystery...before the curse catches up with her.

October Day is a fantasy hero for adults!!
Great listen. Cool, sassy, fast and sad. A very interesting take on a female fantasy character,She is no superhero, she is an understated woman with everyday worries caught between two worlds.
If you like fantasy, this is worth a listen. I will be listening to the next Toby Daye novel, can not wait to see how this great character progresses!!

You gotta love it
Starting abruptly & with more politics than I have ever experienced irl this story may yet be one of the most amazing worlds I've ever experienced....I just wish the narrator didn't try so hard to do the accents because she's not great at them & it just winds up being kind of uncomfortable.

Enjoyed
Took a little while to get into it but once I did I really enjoyed the story. The narrator was very good and was able to give distinctive voices to each character which always help follow the story. Looking forward to listening to the next one.

Love it!
What other book might you compare Rosemary and Rue to, and why?
For sure an original to me so far. I love Seanan McGuire books. All I have read or listened to from her was well worked out, well written and original.
Which character – as performed by Mary Robinette Kowal – was your favourite?
This is a great narrator. All characters reflect that. I love to listen to her.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I have listened to whole series before. I just love all scenes with King of Cats and Luidaeg of course, especially in later books.
Any additional comments?
These series are so worth the credit. I didn't want to sleep so I can keep on listening. Just love it.

Pretty Good.
If you want something to wet your apetite for urban fantasy, this would do it. If you like the Dresden Files, Rivers of London, Daniel Faust and Harmony Black, this would work for you. I dont think it's nearly as good as those books, but it's still pretty. I will be continuing with the series.

Look elsewhere, anywhere else
I’ve picked up many urban fantasy series that can be described as ‘slow to get going’ but show me something that at least earns further foray into later entries as the author finds their feet in the world...this unfortunately did not even warrant that.
I cannot fathom how this book makes it onto any recommended reading lists within urban fantasy platforms let alone in the top 10. It genuinely was teeth grindingly painful to slog through.
Story: Tedious and slow, I’m not sure there is actually something that could be described as a real story as opposed to a series of uninteresting happenings.
Characters: Dull, lifeless, probably the worst of any urban fantasy I’ve ever read.
Urban fantasy setting: Perfectly fine if glaringly unoriginal, copy paste of every major troupe.
Narration: It was okay. I did want to call it flat but I think that is much more the book’s fault rather than the narrators. Your cannot inspire interest or intrigue if none exists in the material. One negative I would add is that it would have been better to do without the accents when you absolutely cannot do said accents. If there was any immersion to be found in the book this would have broken it, fortunately there was nothing to break.
Wrap up: I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for your next urban fantasy read.

Promising but failed to deliver
I really struggled with this one and after investing many hours listening I gave up, phew. I didn't find the characters, plot, writing or the narrator to be engaging. Looking forward to listening to something else. something with more spark. To be honest it was all a bit dull.

Not a fan of this one
The narrator was completely awful, the accents of some characters were almost insulting. It's not the best Seanan McGuire novel, but the narration made it way worse...

Not quite what I expected.
Too descriptive not enough storyline. Not my cup of tea as I like something that has more pace.
