Summary
Is it really cheating if he was yours first?
Romeo and I were friends long before we were lovers. Best friends. Ride or die. What started as an innocent kiss slowly unraveled and shattered, giving way to years of tears and total obsession.
Now I’m back in the small town I call home, staring straight into the face of the only man I’ve ever loved…or hated. To make matters worse, his wife stands at his side, smiling sweetly as my heart breaks all over again.
When life throws us back together, cracks quickly start to appear in the perfect façade of their marriage, and I’m left fighting the unstoppable force that is my attraction to Romeo.
My enemy.
My lover.
My life.
Some say fate is written in the stars and once something is done, it can’t be undone.
But what if that isn’t true?
If you could rewrite the stars and unbreak your heart, would you?
Romeo Falling is an angsty, obsessive, possessive MM romance that contains cheating (not between MC's). It is not a retelling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

This was my first book from author Jesse R. Reign.
After listening to the first few chapters I asked in the author’s group if, how I suspected, this book would break my heart, and I was replied that it would, but it would piece it all together again. And they were exactly right. Romeo and Jude’s second chance is a rollercoaster of emotions, so much heartbreak, but so much sweetness, too. I loved every single moment of it, even the ones that cot me chocked up with tears.
This was also my first time listening to a book performed by Zachary Zaba. He really did a great job with impersonating the different characters: gruff yet vulnerable Romeo, hopelessly in love Jude, and OMG did he nail Shelby’s grating voice!

One of my favorite books this year!
I’m always on the fence listening to one of my favorite books in audio. Even with the best narrator it often isn’t as good as when I read the book. But this one was almost better. Romeo and Jude are childhood BFF and masters of miscommunication. But the love between these two are what romance books are all about. I devoured the book and the audio too. This one is going on my comfort read list - my book “pick me up” list!

A Heart-Wrenching Tale of Love, Hearthache, and Fate
Jesse H. Reign’s Romeo Falling pulls you into an emotional rollercoaster that’s equal parts passionate and heartbreaking. From the moment I read the blurb, I knew this story would be filled with angst, obsession, and complicated love - and it absolutely delivered on all fronts.
The story follows two former best friends turned lovers, caught in a painful and messy dynamic that spans years. jude returns to his small hometown, only to be confronted by the love of his life, Romeo, who now has a wife by his side. But nothing is as it seems, and as life brings them together again, old wounds resurface, tempting fate to rewrite their story.
I really loved the storyline and how the author crafts the tension between the characters. The chemistry between Romeo and Jude is palpable, and the back-and-forth emotions keep you invested. Their shared past and unresolved feelings are explored through alternating "past" and "present" chapters - a structure I’m not always a fan of, but here it’s done well enough that it’s easy to follow and adds to the tension.
That said, the audiobook was a bit of a letdown for me. As a major audio listener, I felt like the narration lacked emotion, with little to no intonation. It felt like someone was reading the book without truly performing it, which took away some of the emotional punch. Normally, I would DNF a book if the audio didn’t live up to the story, but the plot and characters here were so compelling that I powered through. I won’t be rating the book based on the narration, though, because the writing itself shines through.
Overall, Romeo Falling is a gripping, angst-filled romance with characters that will have you hooked from the start. If you enjoy complex love stories with emotional depth, and can steer clear of the audiobook, this one’s a must-read.
