Summary

When firefighter and single dad Steve Springfield moved his four kids to a Colorado Christmas tree ranch, he intended for it to be a safe haven. But he never expected danger to follow them to his childhood home...or that he would come face-to-face with the one girl he could never forget.

Folk artist Camille Brandt lives a quiet life. As the town's resident eccentric, she's used to being lonely - until Steve "freaking" Springfield changes everything. Brave and kind, he's always had a piece of her heart, and it doesn't take long before she's in danger of falling for him and his rambunctious kids.

But as mysterious fires break out across the sleepy Colorado town, Steve and Camille will have to fight if they want their happy family to survive until Christmas....

Contains mature themes.

Another Katie Ruggle gem

Don't let the dodgy title put you off! This is a lovely, entertaining book full of the wonderful characters Katie Ruggle creates so well. It's warm, funny, cringe worthy and joyful. Great read.

Charming

I would never have spent a credit on a book with a title like this, but seeing that it was included in the Plus Catalogue, I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. Quirky and charming characters romping along in a pleasant and undemanding holiday story. Well worth a listen if you are looking for a feel-good sweet read/listen.

4 stars on this Christmas Tale

'Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas' introduces us to Steve Springfield. Steve and his four children have recently returned to their homeland. After his wife died years ago, he wanted to provide a safe refuge for his children and returned to his family's ranch. He didn't expect to see Camille Brandt again. Camille is the town's hermit/artist. Camille leads a secluded existence, interacting with as few people as possible. When she sees Steve Springfield after not seeing him in years, she is disappointed to find herself in awe of him as much as she did as a teen. But she soon finds herself drawn to him and his gorgeous children. But there is danger nearby.
I enjoy a good Cowboy story and Christmas. So a Cowboy Christmas story is always welcome in my book. And, happily, 'Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas' is an enjoyable book in my opinion. I adored the two main characters, Steve and Camille, from the start. Camille is an awkward artist who doesn't know how to engage with others. As a result, reading about her relationships with others was a lot of pleasure. Especially while she was speaking with Steve. She became nervous and began rattling, which I can absolutely do as well.
Steve was an attractive but mostly compassionate man who was also a fantastic father. I enjoyed reading about his interactions with his children. But the romance between Steve and Camille was my favourite part of this book. It wasn't flawless; it took some time, and they were both a little nervous, so it took them a little longer to get to that first kiss. And I really liked it about this novel.

And those four kids of Steve? They were really fun to read about. They all had this special thing about them. And they seemed way to smart for their age.. but I just loved them. And reading about them made me laugh a lot.
Although this story took place around Christmas time, it wasn’t all about Christmas which fitted the book and I enjoyed. It wasn’t this too perfect Christmas read, but just Christmassy enough.

To be honest, the finale of this novel was not what I had hoped for. It was even a touch 'rushed' for me. As if this book could only be another 50 pages long and no longer. The firebug angle didn't make much sense plot-wise and the red herring of the wrong brother got a bit tiresome. Especially once I discovered who had done it. However, because the beginning and romance of this novel were so fantastic, I still think it was a great read.

Vanessa Daniels did a great job narrating.

very enjoyable listen

I really enjoyed this book. Loved the main characters. Their story is just so sweet. I could help but laugh at the funny bits with the kids. The twist at the end was surprising. The narrator was great!

Too good to be true …

… but who cares. At least there are multiple comments on how improbably amazing and interesting the children are as well as their buff, thoughtful and generally adorable father. Camille is a great character too - socially awkward but able to say the right thing to each of the aforementioned children. I can see why some might find this a bit much but I really enjoyed the ‘mushiness’ and the bit of intrigue/suspense which accompanied it.
