About this listen

Theo Decker might be the lead singer of Riven, but he hates being a rock star. The paparazzi, the endless tours, being recognized everywhere he goes - it all makes him squirm. The only thing he doesn't hate is the music. Feeling an audience's energy as they lose themselves in Riven's music is a rush unlike anything else...until he meets Caleb Blake Whitman. Caleb is rough and damaged, yet his fingers on his guitar are pure poetry. And his hands on Theo? They're all he can think about. But Caleb's no groupie - and one night with him won't be enough.

Just when Caleb is accepting his new life as a loner, Theo Decker slinks into it and turns his world upside down. Theo's sexy and brilliant and addictively vulnerable, and all Caleb wants is another hit. And another. That's how he knows Theo's trouble. Caleb can't even handle performing these days. How the hell is he going to survive an affair with a tabloid superstar? But after Caleb sees the man behind the rock star, he begins to wonder if Theo might be his chance at a future he thought he'd lost forever.

Contains mature themes.

Narrator to avoid

After this novel I decided Chris Chambers is a narrator I am going to avoid.

Gorgeous!

This had way more emotion and depth than I was expecting!

Caleb and Theo are absolutely amazing mcs. They have such different backstories but are just perfect for each other and I fell head over heels for them from the very start!

The narrators brought them to life so well and it drew me into the story in a way that I know wouldn’t have happened if I’d read it instead of listened.

The story overall has everything I enjoy - a sprinkle of drama, plenty of spice and all the emotions I can think of!

4,5 stars rounding down

*Spoilers ahead*

Chris Chambers voice is magical and lyrical and just listening to him transports me to the story. Iggy Toma is an excellent narrator and was a wonderful Theo.

This is my 2nd listen of the story but first time reviewing it and I have to say I loved it this 2nd time more.

Caleb and Theo both have baggage and are struggling, each with their own demons, trying to work through them, protect the other from them. Most times that imploded with them breaking up, and the reason why I didn't give the story 5 stars was of Theo sleeping with groupies the first time he broke up with Caleb which frankly did nothing for the story and was never mentioned, and resulting with getting to know the others ticks.

A beautiful, gritty, heartwrenching story, do not miss.

Gorgeous and uplifting

I thought this book might be overly angsty, but it wasn’t at all. It addressed difficult themes such as addiction and exclusion, but in a positive way. There isn’t a strong or unique plot line, but the character development is deep and believable, with both MCs being relatable and compelling. The narration was excellent, one of the best I’ve heard from Iggy in particular. Highly recommended.

Good but something was missing...

Theo is a huge rock star and "living the dream" but he hates it. He hates touring, the business aspect, the attention, the lack of privacy, basically everything but the music itself. He feels guilty for hating it and tries to push himself to appreciate what he has and feels indebted to his bandmates for giving him the opportunity to persue his passion. One night while walking around NYC trying to clear his head, he hears music that captivates him and finds himself walking in to a hole in the wall bar where he finds the source of the music Caleb. The two men have an instant connection and what starts as a hot one night stand, leads to a budding romance whilst they try to navigate Calebs addiction recovery that he slipped into during his own career as a musician and how Theos lifestyle has the potential to put Caleb in the path of temptation and if their connection is worth the risk.

Came across this in the Audible Plus catalogue and I liked it but didn't love it. It's told in dual POV, both characters are likeable and have dimensions to them. I liked Rhys Calebs friend/ex and I think how Calebs character was shown dealing with his recovery felt real, as I would imagine there would be times in that process you would have to/need to be selfish especially when crossing back into a world that fueled your addiction in the first place, so his trepidation and push/pull with Theo although frustrating felt authentic for the situation. The chemistry between them was ok and the spicy scenes were good but I was still left feeling disconnected from them and I can't fully explain why. Iggy Toma & Chris Chambers narrate and I enjoyed their performances. For an included listen this was decent and was my first book by this author. 🌶🌶
