Summary

Mobsters can be such drama queens sometimes....

Lennie's got her work cut out for her when the case of a missing brooch leads her straight into the underbelly of Chicago mob. Booze, deceit, threats...why, between the thugs and her overbearing Uncle - remarkably similar - Lennie's got a little too much to handle. Good thing she doesn't have a tendency to fib her way into deeper trouble, just as things are looking their bleakest. Oh wait. She does!

Lennie's on the case.

Lennie Carson is a sassy young sleuth in 1925 Chicago, cracking cases with the help of her ethereal partner, Mr. Parker. But between the pressures of being a reluctant debutante, and having to work for a living to get out from under her Uncle's thumb, Lennie has to be extra clever to help people in need. That, or fudge some facts along the way.

Narrator just perfect just story to short

Where does Risk the Queen rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

As this was just a short story it cannot be compared to full-size novels but on saying that it doesn't mean it is short on good characters or storyline. It gives you just enough information and background about the main characters which leave you wanting to know more.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Only one real main character and I liked her. I just had to keep reminding myself that the story was set in 1925 as a couple of times I thought, I admit, how thick is the woman not knowing about history but then remembered our history is her future - so not authors fault by my faulty memory.

Which character – as performed by Gracia Gillund – was your favourite?

I found she read all characters very well. I really enjoyed her portrayal of everyone where they were speaking or Lennie was describing them. Her voice was a perfect choice and I enjoyed listening to her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This book is a short one so it was very easy to listen in one sitting and left me feeling I wanted to hear more.

Any additional comments?

This book is a great introduction to Lennie and Mr. Parker and I hope there is to be a longer book about them and their investigations. It leaves you with so many questions - don't want to say what as that would give the story away but they don't detract from the story, their investigation is complete without knowing more about their past but oh how I long to know more.Gracie Gillunds voice is perfect for Lennie - makes her sound the correct age ( for me a big no-no is when I listen to a book and the narrator sounds far too young for the main character, nothing worse than your main character is twenty-something but narrator makes them sound as if they were 13 which sadly happens all to often - and although I would finish such a book I would never reread it or buy another in the series read by that narrator). I look forward to buying the next book in the series and hope that it is still Gracie Gillund who will be reading it - if not then I am not sure I would buy it.This book was given to me for free and in return, I promised to give an honest and truthful review which in my opinion I have done.
