About this listen

Maggy Van Eijk knows where the best place to cry in public is: the top deck of a bus, right at the front. She also knows that eating super salty liquorice or swimming in an icy cold pond are things that make you feel alive but aren't bad for you.

These are the things to remember when you're sad.

Turning 27, Maggy had the worst mental health experience of her life so far. She ended a three-year relationship. She was almost fired (twice). She lost friends and made bad decisions. She drank too much and went to A&E over 12 times. She saw three different therapists and had three different diagnoses. She went to two burns units for self-inflicted wounds and was escorted in an ambulance to a mental health crisis team. It was quite the year.

This book is about anxiety and depression, Maggy's panic attacks, teenage bulimia and disassociation. But it's also about being a young woman with the added pressure of having an untrustworthy mind. Remember This When You're Sad is a brave, beautifully written and important book that lays bare the true reality of mental illness in the hope it can help others through their turmoil.

So incredibly inspired!!

I absolutely adored this! The writing is so poignant, heartbreaking, uplifting and hilarious all at once. I find Maggy's bravery staggering and am inspired to not only follow all of her very useful tips regarding mental health but to continue writing my own memoir now...these stories need to be shared!! Katie's voice and Maggy's words have been my accompaniment for several long walks this past week...I'll miss them!

Amazing and moving

I loved this book more than I can say. It feels soft and warm when I’m down and anxious and I always keep it downloaded on my phone for when things start going wrong. I click on a chapter and listen and relax. Amazing. Best self help book I’ve read.

Well remembered

This is a superb book from inside the experience of developmental trauma (the term borderline personality disorder is an insult to developmentally traumatised persons!) - funny, very practical and helpful to therapists (me included). I highly recommend this book. It was well written and read - human and honest. Buy it!

Shows us that there are lots shades of "normal"

Good to listen to a first hand warts and all account. I have learned a great deal and am inspired to research more into the subject.

I Could Have Written This

This was so relatable that I feel I could have written it; it was like looking into a mirror. I loved the everything in it and the way it was read. Just perfect.

Just could not warm to the book or the girl

I really struggled with this book. I wanted to feel for her but I just couldn't. I found the delivery too glib.
