Summary
The British Army at the end of the nineteenth century was not a fair place. Despite the reforms, a bad officer could still ruin men's lives and Jack Roberts discovers that despite being a hero of Rorke's Drift, that means nothing when a superior has influence. He becomes a soldier serving in the Egyptian campaign where he learns not only new skills but how to deal with the new responsibility fatherhood brings.
Throughout it all one thing is constant, he is a soldier of the queen, a redcoat with a rifle.

Redcoats Rifle
A worthwhile follow up to Soldier of the Queen. Loved every minute of it. Sincerely hope that book 3 Omdurman will be available on Audibke soon.

More Exciting than Book One!
Jack Roberts, the young hero of Rorke's Drift and the Zulu War (Book One) moves up the rank of a non-commission officer in Book 2. Early, in this new story; he father's a son before going back to Africa to help the British to train an Egyptian Battalion. His outstanding leadership is recognized by many military leaders. His many adventures are so fast paced; I could not stop listening until I finished this exciting story. I can hardly wait for book 3 to be released in audio.

Vivid Action
Brilliantly told, this rip-roaring adventure of the Victorian British Army is a tour de force of a excellent story centred on a senior NCO, rather than an officer, which is quite unusual. Focused on the campaigns around the Sudan, it is a worthy successor to the first novel in the series.

Loved it
Please, please, another continuation of SM Roberts adventures. Cannot wait for the next season. Marston York brings it to life and the combination of author and reader is simply amazing. Highly recommended.
