About this listen

Coming home and finding out my ex is my new roommate is a nightmare…especially when I’ve been pretending to hate her for years.

Harper Davidson has been ingrained on my heart since we were kids, and now she’s tattooed on my skin. But she’ll never know about either. Not when she’s better off thinking we’re enemies.

Having her in my space every day and sharing a wall with her every night is a challenge I never saw coming. A challenge I’m not sure I’m up to.

Especially when our daytime games turn into nighttime dares, pushing each other to the breaking point until our neighbors know exactly who’s making her scream.

As lines blur and feelings deepen, we begin teetering on the edge of something more. And it's becoming harder to pretend that this is nothing—that she is nothing.

Because this second chance is starting to feel like a last chance.

It’s always been her for me, but I’m broken beyond repair and don’t know how to be the man she needs. These demons in my closet are never silent, and I’ll do anything to keep them from dragging her down with me.

Even if that means letting her go again.

Intense, emotional and heartwarming

Wow! This book was intense in the best way. This is first Brighton Walsh book I’ve read and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to read this series. This is book 6 of the Starlight Cove series and can be read as a standalone. While I didn’t feel lost at any point while listening, I did feel like I’d have appreciated certain things better if I’d read the series in order. This is a small town second chance, forced proximity romance.

This book has everything - comedy, banter, tension, tender moments, heartache and healing. I absolutely loved it. If you liked the dynamic between Sam and Casper in The Love You Fight for by Brit Benson, you’re going to love Levi and Harper - the rough, blue collar MMC who brings out the wild side of the prim and proper FMC from the other side of the tracks.

Levi has been carrying the burden of regret for something that happened over a decade ago. I love how she never pushed him to tell her what was weighing on him. She just let him know she was there for him if he needed her and that made him feel comfortable to eventually open up. Harper is a strong independent woman who’s trying to make her own way in the world and it’s lovely to see how Levi cares for and supports her (even when they’re lying to themselves about their feelings). Levi is so relatable and so loveable. He had my heart from the beginning of the book.

The side characters added a lot of humour to the story. I’m dying to read the rest of the series so I can see more of them. The Mckenzie siblings and their partners are a fun group of people that I would love to hang out with. They been through a lot as a family and it’s only made them closer. It was really heartwarming to see how they supported Levi when he finally revealed what he’s been going through and also how they welcomed Harper. This book has great mental health rep.

The narration was done in duet and both Zachary Johnson and Lucy Rivers were phenomenal. I loved the voices Lucy did for Mabel, the landlady, and Chase’s mum. Her portrayal of both characters had a warm, nurturing quality that perfectly captured their maternal presence in the story. Zachary Johnson is new to me and I loved his portrayal of Levi. He had me squirming in my seat during the spicy scenes and completely melting when he captured Levi’s gentle, caring side. They were both great in the emotional scenes. I’m not a big crier, but I cried a little bit in the last maybe 2 hours of the book.

Rebel Heart: Starlight Cove Book 6

🎧🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧🎧

I already loved this story going into the audiobook but there’s a thing that happens sometimes where the audio just blows my mind (it can also happen and has happened in reverse) so of course I had to see if Levi’s story would do one or the other. I also, of course, took advantage of the fact that I own all Starlight Cove stories in audio and had myself a little binge … for the second time *shrug*

I know audiobooks are a huge investment, but listen, start squirreling your pennies right now because listening to not just Rebel Heart, but the entire series, is an emotional tsunami of epic proportions. It’s a tsunami of laughter and tears; of hope and heart; of family, love, blessings, and every other emotion you can think of. I can say with 100% certainty that the best experience is going to be listening. I don’t say that often, but maaannnn did this cast do a phenomenal job! ALL OF THEM!!

I know my focus should be on Rebel Heart but there’s no way you can read this series without starting from the very beginning. I’m not gonna get into the why of it cuz I’m sure I already have many times in previous books, but you have to trust me.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻HUGE round of applause to Brighton Walsh, Zachary Johnson & Lucy Rivers!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

📚📚BOOK REVIEW📚📚
This is my favorite series of Brighton’s to date! But, shssss, don’t tell the others :) Not only is this my favorite series, but the stories grew exponentially in their greatness. It is a binge-worthy series for sure, which I have actually done twice now with the audiobooks, but I couldn’t do it for this release because I was not as prepared and organized with my time as I should have been. Anywho, the audiobook isn’t even in production yet so BOO on that Brighton, but let’s move on.

This is a big story. It doesn’t just mark the end of a series, but it also closes the *family arc* that has been woven thru all the books. AND, let’s face it, we all knew Levi was going to hurt, so there’s that! All of this was executed flawlessly. Was it a bit too introspective for me? Yeah, at times. But that’s what this story needed so I’m good with it. I prefer my stories to be a lot more conversational and more often than not, it wouldn’t work well for me at this level, but this story just needed it. You’ll have to read it to find out why!

I have to tell you guys something. This is not a standalone. #fightme. I cannot tell you the why of it all because, spoilers, but you must TRUST ME. That’s it on that.

Levi & Harper are going to shred your heart but also put it back together. They will frustrate you and make you laugh all at the same time. Levi is gonna get you all hot and bothered just by talking *wink* and together with Harper they are 🔥fire🔥!! The story is poignant, angst-driven, and fully satisfying, especially if you’ve been on this ride since the beginning. I couldn’t have asked for a better story for not just Levi, but also for the family round-up :) Well done!

The perfect audio to end the series

This is the fifth and final book in the Starlight Cove series, the one that’s been teased throughout and the one I’ve been waiting for with ill disguised anticipation. We finally get to find out why childhood best friends, Levi and Harper, are now little more than enemies and why Levi can’t even stand to be in the same room as Harper. I’ve already read the book and I’m getting re-giddy thinking about it again. But regular caveat - this book definitely stands alone and come with its own happily ever after. Of course it’s got major cameos from the rest of the Mackenzie clan and their significant others - but you don’t need any prior knowledge to listen to and adore this story.

So onto Levi and Harper…

Due to the meddling of a horny little granny, Levi finds his apartment invaded by his one-time childhood friend, and ex-girlfriend Harper. It’s just for 6 weeks while Harper writes an article for the travel magazine she works for - but neither are happy or amused at the situation or being in such close proximity to the other.

The reason for their antipathy quickly becomes clear as we find out Levi’s inner most thoughts. There are definitely some valid trigger warnings with this book - particularly in relation to Levi. With that said, I suffer in much the same way as Levi and while the first chapter did hit quite hard, it definitely eased off as we move through the book as Levi starts to focus on his relationship with Harper. But for those worried, the mental health issues are dealt with realistically, sympathetically and honestly.

Levi is obviously shaped by his issues but aside from that he’s a decent, loyal and likeable guy. Grumpy, sure, but he’s such a smitten kitten for Harper that I almost can’t bear how cute it was! Despite being all in for Harper, he tries so damn hard to resist her. He’s rubbish at doing so, but it was so delightful. Levi is performed by the deep and gruff voiced Zachary Johnson and man did he sell it to me. His storytelling was guttural, emotive and I believed every word he said and every harsh thought he had.

Harper was my ideal type of heroine. She’s smart, sassy, honest and determined; a real independent woman - even if she’s a bit of a lone wolf. As well as her relationship with Levi, I adored watching her find her roots in Starlight Cove and finding out that she belonged there. She is voiced by Lucy Rivers - a narrator that I have never heard before this book. Much like her counterpart, Lucy is a delight to listen to. She really gets into the heart of Harper’s character and I really felt her passion and her angst.

This book is performed in duet narration which means that while each character reads the chapter for their character - if there’s dialogue each narrator speaks the individual voices. So it’s more like listening to a conversation than one voice doing all the parts. It works well, sounds seamless and really adds a depth of reality to the story.

All round, this is a story that makes you all squidgy, happy and oh so satisfied. I’m equal parts joyous and bereft that we’ve come to the end of the Starlight Cove series but I’ve loved every minute of getting to know this wonderful family in this adorable town. And I’m very much hoping that the four brothers that Harper was trying to interview for her article might just be the teasing of a very new series set in Starlight Cove. A girl can hope. But this is an excellent book, so easy to listen to and with all the sexiness, smuttiness, heart and romance that you’d expect from Brighton Walsh. Easily 5 stars.

Levi & Harper

4.25 Stars

Levi, Levi, Levi… the recluse and mysterious brother that refuses to do as his dictator sister says, ever! So broken, so broody, so swoony. Harper is his perfect match: knows her worth, deals with whatever is thrown her way and fights for what she wants. Just who Levi needs to fight his corner, and she does!!
Narrator wise, both Lucy Rivers and Zachary Johnson kind of grew on me after a few chapters and now I can’t not imagine them as Levi and Harper.

Disappointed

Could not listen to the whole book. I had enjoyed the series but was disappointed with this one. The 2 main characters spend most of the book (till where I stopped at chapter 13) thinking/talking to themselves. Female narrator was difficult to listen to. The book consists of a lot of angst felt by the 2 characters and not much else.
