Summary
Book 2 in Raymond E. Feist’s bestselling Firemane Saga!
Hatushaly and his young wife Hava are living a good life, working to reopen the burned-out Inn of the Three Stars in the prosperous trading town of Beran's Hill.
But there is a great deal more to this bucolic scene than meets the eye. Both Hatu and Hava were raised on the secret island of Coaltachin, and though they may appear to be no more than a young couple in love, preparing for the midsummer festival where their friends Declan and Gwen will be wed, they are in fact assassins on a mission, waiting instructions from their masters in the Kingdom of Night.
Moreover, Hatu is the last remaining member of the ruling family of Ithrace – the legendary Firemanes. He dyes his flaming red hair, and has studied to control his dangerous magical powers. But however hard Hatu may be hiding from all those who would seek to use or to destroy him, fate has other plans.
Horrific events are approaching Beran's Hill, bringing death and devastation to the peaceful town as unknown and monstrous forces are unleashed. And nothing will ever be the same again.

Excellent sequel
I read the first book so it was unusual to listen to the narrator’s voice as I already had my own thoughts as to what the characters would sound like but once I adjusted to the narrator’s accent it was well read the book itself is a well written story you really feel for the characters and invest in their lives I am looking forward to the final part.

EY UP i'm narrating our kid
I love this author. but waiting a year for a sub ten hour sequel read by a guy who thinks bringing a character alive means making him northern is too much.
would someone introduce the publisher to Mr John Lee. start again. I'll buy it in a 2 for 1 sale

A Feisty Second Book Promises Much More!
I do occasionally get irritated and just a little bit grumpy and cantankerous when the publisher's blurb promises a lot but the story within fails to deliver or doesn't really match up to what's promised. No need to worry about that here though because when Feist promises you 'devastating events' he genuinely means it. I'd hate to be a character in one of his books because if he decides that you need to go, even if you were a bit of a star in previous books, then you'd better duck because axes, arrows and flames are likely heading for your vital organs!
In fact this book lulls you into a false sense of security with a fairly steady and patient start and then just when you're nice and relaxed . . . WHAM! It's the reader that gets clobbered from behind and from then on it's high action and drama all the way. It's a typical Feist journey through a well built world with decent characters and of course with a quality narrator like David Thorpe at the helm it never hits a bum note.
I have this down as a series to look forwards to and I very much hope that Feist's publisher is on at him right now to keep beavering away at the rest of the Firemane Saga!

Vintage Feist
An enjoyable romp with many of the hallmarks of a classic Feist, that fans will surely recognise.
The narration was generally good, the only downside for me being some odd editing; the breaks between new sections, with different characters, often being too short to signal the change.
Otherwise recommended as an easy and engaging listen. I look forward to part 3.

Fantastic
David Thorpe does a great job of narration. Fantastic work from Raymond Feist as well. Doesn't drag out the details and characters too much and keeps the plot rolling and interesting.

Excellent Second Book!
I am really enjoying this world and the way the characters are developing. It's great to see Feist return to form! If you are a fan of Magician and debating whether to jump in then I highly recommend it!
