Summary

A brand-new psychological thriller from the best-selling author of The Bridesmaid and The Daughter in Law.

In the quiet village of Helesbury, Miranda Wallace prides herself on being the most popular member of her small social circle; the perfect friend, the best mum - the queen bee.

Until one day, Verity arrives. Cool and indifferent, Verity is everything Miranda isn’t, but she threatens to shatter Miranda’s picture-perfect life.

Suddenly plagued with insecurities, Miranda is certain Verity is hiding something. And Miranda knows all about secrets and the damage they can cause, because she’s hiding some of her own.

So when Verity threatens to reveal the truth about Miranda and destroy the perfect life she’s built, Miranda knows she has to act to protect the people she loves - even if the results are deadly.

Great book - lots of twists and turns

Really enjoyed this and it was a great read after the last book I read was a bit boring. This was quite interesting and exciting - always love books by this author!

Mediocre

Struggled with this. Narration is a little stilted and the characters are rather one dimensional. Careful plotting but dull.

Overall a good listen

I did guess the ending quite early which was disappointing, but narration was good & it was still a good listen as it was in the plus catalogue so didn’t cost me a credit.

Enjoyable easy listen

I haven't recently read the reviews on this book. I remember when deciding to buy this Audible Book that a few reviews were rather negative. Although this was not a full on thriller, it kept me engrossed, as I was eager to find out the ending. I tried to guess what the final twist would be. I could not quite guess it correctly, which pleased me as normally I work out plots very easily. Possibly due to all the Audible Books I have bought and other Books I have read. Which amounts to a lot. This was narrated very well. Once you have listened to a few chapters it does pull you into the storyline and again although not a complicated novel it was very enjoyable and I felt that I had to know the ending. So if you fancy an interesting cosy book with a twist right at the end. This is a good listen you will enjoy.

Gripping

Very well built up and good story, was a bit disappointed at the ending but it worked.

Good plot line

I was determined to finish this book, I have loved previous books by the same author. Mirander, as the main character was hard to like. she was too needy and didn't generate any empathy. The plot line was good but I was ready to stop listening as a grown woman acted like a jealous 10 year old iver a friend. Although the end of the book was good.

Bloody Social Media.

This book certainly rings many bells for me. I have a huge Twitter (X) following and without realising that becoming an Influencer I too found myself at the end of keyboard warriors. Grown-ups who find it funny to bully others online.

So Miranda's story certainly struck a cord. This book is well written and tackles the ups and downs of 'running away to start again', country life and the dreaded playground with the vast array of 'Mothers'!

Manning throws in a few curveballs which adds to the storyline.

Great book to take on holiday.

It was alright

Had this recommended to me and nearly gave up after a couple of chapters of whingy Miranda’s voice but I got into the storyline and decided to persist. It was all very obvious who was who and the “drama” which made her leave her life was over the top but it was an alright book for easy listening. Recommend Lisa Jewell if you want this type of book but less obvious storyline

Annoying main character

Disappointing book from Nina Manning. Main character was whiny and childish. Spoilt. The social media story line was weak. Ending predictable. Main narrator’s voice was not enjoyable to listen to.
