Great Stuff
Gripping story, elegantly read by Tony Britton. The sheer decency, generosity and touching humanity of the main characters makes you long for a past age. And thrown in, as you would expect, a host of fascinating detail regarding the racing world - and a little of the wine-producing world too. But overall, a gripping, satisfying listen.

If the sound level of recording was fixed….
If the sound level of recording was fixed…. This is obviously an old recording. The quality of the production is far below what I expect from an Audible book.
Despite that, I enjoyed the story and the narration was excellent. It was the editing and post production that let it down.

Beautifully read and written
The slightly poor sound quality didn’t bother me, the reading is just so good and the quality of the writing is second to none.
Some great life lessons thrown in as a bonus to the enjoyable tale.

Classic Dick Francis, poor recording quality .
Another well paced , well structured and good old fashioned crime novel from Dick Francis. I have listened to Dick Francis recordings read by Tony Britton for many years and once again throughly enjoyed the storytelling by this excellent narrator.
However the quality of the recording is simply not good enough and diminishes the experience. Audible really need to digitally enhance the recording or offer an option read by an alternative narrator (albeit I would greatly miss the warm tones of Mr Britton).

Brilliant as always
I've liked Dick Francis books for years and really enjoyed this one. I think Tony Britton's voice really makes them. A joy to listen to. Just bought another.

I loved it all, especially the narration.
A lovely story, well read. The poor recording quality didn’t distract from the enjoyment. Highly recommended!

Very enjoyable
I understand the comments about the quality of the recording which is obviously pre-digital. That said it isn’t awful and you can clearly hear everything. The recording quality for me was forgotten by the utterly fantastic Tony Britton. I listen to a lot of books, and he is head and shoulders above anyone else. Simply the best as they say. Dick Francis is a very easy read, likeable characters and a good story.

Great story
It is a shame that these old Tony Britton recordings have not been cleaned up. He is such a good narrator but the blips rather spoil the flow.
