About this listen

When the witch built the 40-flight tower, she made very sure to do the whole thing properly. Each flight contains a dreadful monster, ranging from a diamond-scaled dragon to a pack of slavering goblins. Should a prince battle his way to the top, he will be rewarded with a golden sword - and the lovely Princess Floralinda.

But no prince has managed to conquer the first flight yet, let alone get to the 40th.

In fact, the supply of fresh princes seems to have quite dried up.

Really enjoyed this

For the short story this was, it was pretty much perfect. The plot was nice and progressed suitably quickly in places I expected it to dawdle. I liked the main character and how the author played with stereotypes to get you to expect different things.

I didn't love the ending but I won't spoil it. Other than that, this book was great. The narrator was stellar and the setting made sense. Would definitely recommend, especially to fantasy fans.

Totally recommend

Great to have a narrator that fits the story so well. Nothing jarred and her voice really enhanced the narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this quirky amusing tale- echoes of Angela Carter.

Brilliantly entertaining!

This book was so engrossing and funny, with both an adult and childlike quality. It made me laugh out loud in parts while it explored the fantasies of the mind with mythical creatures everywhere. Great book!

A fun little story

Listening at Christmas, it seemed a perfect fairy tale for our times - loved the fairy and the princess- beautifully read and full of humour. All those archetypes tumbled to dust!
