Summary

Book one in the Turning Point series.

Matthew Elliot is one of LA’s best detectives. He’s been labeled the golden boy of the Fab Four: a team of four detectives who’ve closed down drug-rings all over the city. He’s smart, tough and exceptionally good at his job. He’s also a closeted gay man.

Enter Kira Takeo Franco, the new boxing coach at the gym. Matthew can’t deny his immediate attraction to the man his fellow cops know as Frankie. But in allowing himself to fall in love with a man known to his colleagues, Matthew risks outing them both.

Matt and Kira work to keep their relationship and private lives hidden from Matt’s very public life, fearing it would be detrimental to their careers. But it’s not the other cops who Matthew should be worried about finding out his deepest, darkest secret.... It’s the bad guys.

Third edition - has new cover and has been re-edited, though no new content has been added.

Light blue touch paper .........

Realistic, dramatic cop thriller that pulls no punches. MCs you can like and respect, making hard choices to be in their chosen careers and lifestyle. Well written and well crafted to reach a exciting climax.

This writer knows how to bring home to bacon. Recommended. 8.5/10

Woohoo!! It's the Matt & Kira show....

This is the first NR Walker audio I've bought, due to all of her other series so far being narrated by someone I'm unfortunately not that keen on 😕. Sean did a really good job with this first Matt & Kira story, and I can't WAIT to see what he makes of Tom & Cooper [Thomas Elkin series].

Great book, great start to a new series

She's done it again, a brilliant start to a series.
Trial and tribulations of a closeted police officer, lusting over a personal trainer.
A drug dealer looking for revenge.

Sean has done a lovely job with the narration, a joy to listen to. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic and very moving

I just wept my eyes out (despite the HEA). I’m a fan of NRW’s other books, but this one is really deeply affecting. The performance by Sean Crisden is excellent. There is some sex, but it’s not the reason for listening - the relationships are beautiful, the story exciting and involving. Most highly recommended.

favorite

This is a favorite re-listen, as is the very different book #2. I love this audiobook because it focuses on Kira and Matt being in love. Warm fuzzy feelings and well-developed protagonists and secondary characters for more than half of the story. After that, suddenly the crime plot explodes, which in my opinion could have been better balanced throughout the story.
The narration is marvelous. Sean Crisden has the right voice for this and he chose to perform this as a stream of consciousness.

Enjoyed...

If you love your characters a little on the alpha side, then you'll love this story. I especially enjoyed the narrators vocals/accents for each characters, sometimes when listening to audio books you can lose the plot and you just don't know who is talking, but I found it quite easy to follow the story.

Moving, balanced and relatable

Well, I really wasn’t expecting to be blown away by the wonderful writing and excellent performance of the narrator but this was a very enriching story, with some wonderful character development and an avoidance of cliché themes. Very impressed and can’t wait for the next in the series!

Terrible narration

I've read a few of N.R Walker's books and enjoyed them. But this book, from 2012 must have been one she 'learned' with.
Quite frankly I got whiplash with the jerky pace of the narrative. It was carelessly speed written, repetitive and there was no consideration of word choices. I hadn't expected such shallow fluff or such poor narration.

Sean Crisden flew through this narration as if he had somewhere else to be. I didn't feel like he connected with the text at all, and I certainly didn't connect with the narration.

Consider me disappointed!
