Critic reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

Excellent

I tried quite a few German learning material before I got to this one. I was specifically looking for a program that doesn`t require long hours of sitting by a table a search dictionaries and all the old stuff we used to do at school ( all of which was truly useless). Then I found Pimslaur, and it is everything I was looking for. I only have to listen to it, there is no boring workbooks and the rest of the useless stuff. Most importantly, it really works. I fell in love with it right after trying the firs lesson: I noticed that the words and sentenced just sticked on me without effort and not only that, but when someone asked me something in German (some simple quetion to tease me) I answered without thinking and hesitation. I was truly impressed.. I would surely recommend this learning program to anyone interested.

Level 2 Lessons 11-15

The jury is still out for me.

I’ve done all of the previous lessons and have just finished this set. I didn’t feel like I was making progress with the course because of the lack of explanations on major grammar points such as German cases. For that reason I have enrolled on a night class at intermediate level.

To be fair to Pimsleur, if it hadn’t been for the course I might have been going in at a lower level but I credit the Paul Noble course way more than Pimsleur with my existing knowledge and that’s quite something when you consider that the Paul Noble course cost me two credits and I’ve spent nine on Pimsleur to get to this point. The difference is the lack of grammar points really slows me down with Pimsleur as it’s impossible to figure patterns out for yourself because of the case system. It’s worth pointing out that I have a GCSE in German but that’s from over twenty years ago. I thought it might be helpful to tell you roughly what level I am at.

In spite of my reservations, having completed the Paul Noble course, there isn’t anything else suitable on Audible and it helps me to do some listening and speaking practice in German. I’m not sure it’s teaching me a huge amount as a stand-alone course but to supplement other learning, I will probably stick with it although I don’t think I will buying additional credits to fly through the course. It’s really not worth it for what I’m getting out of it.
