About this listen
Stop for a moment. Are you here right now?
Is your focus on the words in front of you? Or is it roaming elsewhere, to the past or future, to a worry, to your to-do list, or to your phone?
The good news: there's nothing wrong with you - your brain isn't broken. The human brain was built to be distractible.
The even better news: you can train your brain to pay attention more effectively.
Acclaimed neuroscientist Dr Amishi Jha has dedicated her life's work to understanding the science of attention at every level - from brain-imaging studies in the lab to field testing soldiers, firefighters and athletes. Her mission has been to scientifically determine how we can harness the full power of our attention to better meet all that life demands. In Peak Mind, Dr Jha expertly guides listeners through fascinating research, debunking common assumptions about focus and attention, and offers remarkably easy-to-adapt flexible 12-minute-a-day exercises to lift the mental fog, declutter the mind and strengthen focus so that you can experience more of your life.

An excellent translation of contemplative practice into scientific language
Very grateful to Dr Amishi for sharing her life’s work.
Such a valuable contribution in helping to explain to the sceptic the importance of mindfulness practice in daily life.
Well narrated, understandable and engaging.

An excellent guide
The writer does an excellent job of explaining the science and practical aspects of mindfulness. Exercises are also given and clearly explained. A great introduction for beginners and lots of helpful information for those already on the path.

Deep and actionable; incredible narration
Fantastic and actionable; incredible narration. It’s a very practical and the narration/voice really brings the humor, light touch, and playfulness of the book alive. Talks about mindfulness, much less research, can sound so serious—this was different.
The link between neuroscience research and practical advice is always there. This book goes on depth into the research, but with application as the goal.
The militarism part—while the author tries to square it with her values—is the most tedious part. It’s very American centric here. And a bit jarring.

interesting
A really interesting and informative book, I will be putting the exercises in to practice!
While the narrator does a great job, it's a shame the author didn't read this herself.

Solid info, great narration.
No, if you've already read a few books on mindfulness, you won't find anything new here. But what there is, is very well-written, relatable and actionable. And last but not least, the narration is excellent.

Very good book on Mindfulness
Peak Mind examines the currently trending topic of mindfulness. The author provides many insights from field research and consultation, along with some personal insights. The techniques demand practice, but are worth it.
The narrator has a very feminine voice that puts the listener at ease, or at times, makes one rather sleepy, but overall decent narration and always very clear and understandable.

Excellent and very informative listen
I really enjoyed listening to this book and the neuroscience of how our brain processes our attention was brilliant. This helped me understand the difference between mindfulness and meditation and also the changes that are evident after practising mindfulness. I also loved the exercise to help us look at ourselves reflexively which we don't often do and the well wishing to others, I am determined to try the 4 week exercise. Really well written book.
