Summary
THE HEART-POUNDING NEW NOVEL IN THE KAREN PIRIE SERIES, NOW A MAJOR ITV SERIES STARRING LAUREN LYLE
__________
Edinburgh, haunted by the ghosts of its many writers, is also the cold case beat of DCI Karen Pirie. So she shouldn't be surprised when an author's manuscript appears to be a blueprint for an actual crime.
Karen can't ignore the plot's chilling similarities to the unsolved case of an Edinburgh University student who vanished from her own doorstep. The manuscript seems to be the key to unlocking what happened to Lara Hardie, but there's a problem: the author died before he finished it.
As Karen digs deeper, she uncovers a spiralling game of betrayal and revenge, where lies are indistinguishable from the truth and with more than one unexpected twist . . .
The Queen of Crime Val McDermid is at the top of her game in her most gripping and fiendishly clever case yet.

Val McDermid is amazing
Wow! Twists and turns. She has excelled herself. What creativity, keeping us guessing as she weaves her tale of deception

A Really Great Listen
To start with, I love this Author and narrator as well as the series. So straight away this book is a winner for me.
The story, I felt was different from the norm, it also brought back quite a few memories of Covid.
All in all it was interesting, thought provoking, and sad. we

Another great book by the author
As usual, the author managed to bring to life the characters and make the story a compelling read. Some aspects didn’t hang completely believable to me but this did not detract too much from the enjoyment.

The return of KP nuts
Our Karen Pirie is back . So pleased this book was reissued with Cathleen McCarron as narrator (despite wasting a credit on previous execrable version).

Wonderful narration
So glad I didn’t buy the previous release with the other narrator. I have been enjoying this series because I like the character Pirie and also really enjoyed listening to McCarron wonderful narration.

Great to have Cathleen McCarron back
I'm a big fan of the Karren Pirie series and the wonderful narration of Cathleen McCarron, This story was interesting and I really enjoyed all the twists and turns and the sideline stories about the other characters. The only downside is that it brought back all the unpleasant memories of the beginning of the pandemic and lockdown. It'll be interesting to have it registered in the book for prosperity but it's not something that I'd like to think about anymore.

The narration
So happy to find this has been reissued with Cathleen McCarron narrating the story. It felt like I was being enveloped in a cozy duvet! Comfortable and warm. It was so much easier to listen to, and I returned the previous version with Lauren Lyle narrating. I really like Lauren as an actor, but her narration was a bit jarring.
