Summary

Emma Chase, New York Times best-selling author of the Tangled series, returns with the first installment of the Legal Briefs series!

A Washington, DC, defense attorney, Stanton Shaw keeps his head cool, his questions sharp, and his arguments irrefutable. They don't call him the Jury Charmer for nothing - with his Southern drawl, disarming smile, and captivating green eyes, he's a hard man to say no to. Men want to be him, and women want to be thoroughly cross-examined by him.

Stanton's a man with a plan. And for a while life is going according to that plan.

Until the day he receives an invitation to the wedding of his high school sweetheart, the mother of his beloved 10-year-old daughter. Jenny is getting married - to someone who isn't him.

That's definitely not part of the plan.

Sofia Santos is a city-raised, no-nonsense litigator who plans to become the most revered criminal defense attorney in the country. She doesn't have time for relationships or distractions.

But when Stanton, her "friend with mind-blowing benefits", begs her for help, she finds herself out of her element, out of her depth, and obviously out of her mind. Because she agrees to go with him to The-Middle-of-Nowhere, Mississippi, to do all she can to help Stanton win back the woman he loves. Her head tells her she's crazy... and her heart says something else entirely.

What happens when you mix a one-stop-light town, two professional arguers, a homecoming queen, four big brothers, some Jimmy Dean sausage, and a gun-toting Nana?

The Bourbon flows, passions rise, and even the best-laid plans get overruled by the desires of the heart.

Light and Easy

A lovely, light, easygoing romantic read. Must say that as much as as I loved Stanton he is very much an egotistic, selfish, male chauvinist pig, who at times I wanted to punch. His childhood sweetheart, Jenny, who is also the mother of his daughter, Presley, lives hundreds of miles away in Mississippi. Stanton meanwhile, living in DC has a beautiful friend with benefits agreement with co-worker Sophia. Life's perfect, or so he thinks, until it isn't. When he receives a wedding invite to Jenny's wedding, he takes Sophia back to Mississippi with him to try and convince Jenny that she should be with him. Stanton so can't see the wood for the trees and here ensues a story of love, lost and found. Some funny moments. Looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Fun, sexy and addictive!

What did you like most about Overruled?

Love this series, the story of Stanton and Sophia catches your interest straight away and the characters are endearing. How could Stanton not see what was right under his nose? so funny listening to his efforts to recapture is first love, I really love the way Emma Chase writes with lots of humour. I annoyed my husband because I couldn't put it away.

What did you like best about this story?

I love Stanton's character, the humour had me chuckling and although it is part of a series it could be read as a stand alone, however, if you can, listen to all of Emma Chase stories.

What does Jason Carpenter and Charlotte Penfield bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

These narrators are exceptional, they bring the story to life. I have learnt that the narration can make or break an audible experience and these guys are amongst the best.
