Summary
An all wolf-shifter police force has been the only thing between humans and an unknown evil for centuries, but the pack is in danger of dying if they don't find their promised mates soon.
Trevor Burbank is a shifter cop in a world of humans who don't know the evil that wants them dead. If he does his job well, the humans will never need to know, but he feels like he's working against the clock because his pack is about to die. The females have all been killed, and the half-breeds they make when they mate with humans aren't usually skilled or strong enough to fight.
Gabriela Carmi has lost almost everything that means anything to her way too fast and now she feels like she's losing her mind too. On a quest to find something that won't reveal itself to her, she feels as if she's pining for someone who may not exist. So when an evil presence begins to follow her, she isn't sure if her mind is slowly falling apart or if the impossible is actually coming true. And when an instant attraction sparks between her and the handsome police officer sent to help her, it makes matters worse and better at the same time.
It's a race against time to find the angel/human hybrid "One True Mates" that the pack's spiritual leaders say truly exist. Saving the all the shifter clans is on everyone's mind, except for the chosen, the One True Mates, most of whom don't even know who or what they really are or why they seem to be slowly losing their minds.
Steamy. Light swearing. High heat. You've never experienced a shifter romance like this before.

WHO & WHAT IS ELLA & WILL SHE & TREVOR FIND OUT???
Police Shifter Trevor Burbank & the unknown Gabriella 'ELLA' Cami are the 2 fantastic characters & how I loved these 2 & their connection from the off start.
Ella doesn't quite know who or what she is, ONLY that she's different & not a 'normal' human, but she has some kind of power, that ONLY seems to come out when she connects this 1 'demon I'll call him'
So One True Mate is about these 2 & some of the other unmated Shifter officers & the history of how this 'demon' murdered all female & off spring of the shifters, do they've been unmated & the reason he wants Ella, as it's foretold that she & Trevor are destined the have multiple of litters.
I loved the scene of THEIR MATING as it was do beautiful & magical & it's st this time that They Find Out Who/what her Father is & what genes she has
Beautiful

Narration spoilt a good story
This may be a series that I resort to reading. The story line was interesting & I would like to see how it developed. However I really struggled with the narrators style. It seemed like 1sentence in 3 was read as if it was accompanied by a drumroll of suspense; speaking up towards the end with a gasp to the tone that increased in pitch This I found extremely annoying and I will avoid books with this narrator in the future

great writing - stay with it
I found this book a but difficult to read with all the back and forth timelines but I stuck with it and am very pleased I'd did.
I suggest if you gave trouble leave it alone and come back to it. give your brain a little rest.
the twist on how to get Evie did surprise me.
Michael Pauley did another standup job narrating this book.
thanks Lisa. I'm looking forward to hear the next book.

should have listened to it earlier
Yes - the narrator takes time to get used to but gets better as the story unfolds.
I wish I hadn't listen to the negative reviews and bought the book earlier.
Not as good as the black dagger brotherhood of course but great start to a shifter romance series.
Solid romantic buildup as well.
If you are looking for a good shifter series, it's for you!

A passable story let down by poor narration.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I listened to the book simply because I had nothing else in my library I hadn't already listened to. I nearly gave up several times due to dire narration.
Would you be willing to try another book from Lisa Ladew? Why or why not?
Undecided. If it was the same narrator then definitely not. If it was free on Kindle I might buy it to see if the story reads better than it sounds.
Would you be willing to try another one of Michael Pauley’s performances?
Definitely not.
If this book were a film would you go see it?
No
Any additional comments?
Storyline
My overall impression of the story is that the author has taken bits and pieces from several other series and mishmashed them together.
Although there was nothing new added by the author to this genre the audio book could have been vastly improved by using a different narrator. It took me almost all the running time to get used to his rather flat inflectionless voice. Any other male he voiced sounded like they were a 40 a day smoker and all I could think of when listening to his female voices were Mrs Doubtfire or the comedy voices used by men when trying to imitate women. One of the characters is Scottish, I don't know what accent the narrator voiced him in but it certainly wasn't a Scottish one and when an American character tried to imitate the Grahame the Scottish character he sounded like the Scottish janitor on The Simpsons.
Sorry Mr Pauley but this isn't the series for you.
