About this listen

Sage Cassidy is falling for a boy from out of this world.

Her mom is an alcoholic with a taste for abusive boyfriends, her only friend at school quit talking to her, and the popular girls call her a freak. But none of that matters to 17-year-old Sage. Not since seven years ago when a mysterious boy named Adam pulled her from the dark depths of Lake Superior and gave her something to live for.

A best friend. A confidante. A first kiss.

When Adam appears in the lake one spring night in an explosion of light, Sage learns he is more than just the boy who visits every summer and leaves her to dream about him all winter. Adam is part alien, and he is caught in a cosmic custody battle between a human mother and a powerful otherworldly father.

Eighteen years ago, Adam was given permission to spend his summers with his mother. But the agreement ends this summer, and unless Sage can find a way to keep him with her on earth, Adam will be leaving earth and Sage...forever.

So adorable!

Thank you to Joyce Oben for providing me with a free audiobook in return for an honest review.

Sage and Adam have been best friends for years. He is her only friend and feelings are growing between them, but after a strange experience, Sage begins to learn more and more about Adam that she could ever dream of.

I wasn’t sure about this book when I first read the write up. Sci-fi…especially alien sci-fi..I’ve never been a fan of. However, the promise of adorable romance lured me into it. Wow…I really wasn’t disappointed.

Although the story is very heavily sci-fi as suggested by the blurb, it remains in the human world and focuses on the relationship between Sage and Adam. Both very well written and developing characters. This is all in Sage’s point of view, and I really did feel drawn to both characters as we went further and further into the book.
Sage has had a tough few years with the death of her father, loss of best friends and a constant flow of abusive boyfriends coming in and out of her mum’s life. Although I felt sorry for Sage, I didn’t feel that she allowed herself to be a complete victim which can be very easy for heroines to become in such books.
Adam was the same, we met him from Sage’s point of view as the best friend she looks forward to seeing when he comes to stay with his mum every Summer. I went from feeling indifferent to Adam, to getting very annoyed with him, to thinking he was actually quite sweet, to being very annoyed with him again, to eventually adoring him.

I think the pace of the story is written well. Everything that happens in this book seems to have a purpose, yet there’s not so much going on that it gets too confusing or hard to understand.

I love narrator Joyce Oben’s voice. She’s got a beautiful tone and keeps the story at a great pace. She has a great way of differentiating voices for characters and giving them life. The emotion that she carries is great, especially during tense or sad sections of the book. I honestly don’t think that anyone could have done a better job of giving Sage a voice.

Saying how unsure I was about this story, I was really hooked and I want to know more. I want to know what steps Sage is going to take next. I’m hoping to find out more about Zayne and his motives, I also really hope to hear more from Adam, although I’m not sure how. I’m definite]y planning on reading the next book in the series to find out what’s coming next!

This is a great book for young adults and romance fans alike. Even better if you’re a sci-fi fan…but if not, please don’t let it put you off, it’s easy to follow and very toned down.

One Starry Knight

I love YA Science Fiction, so when I saw this I had to listen to it.
I found as the story progressed that I did not like some of the characters and felt no connection to them.
This book is not for me but others might like it.
