Summary
Make no mistakes about it. I know what I look like to others. Young, government-aided, pregnant mom. They see Lucy on my hip, and they see a mistake. I mean, why else would someone have a child so young, right?
They couldn’t be more wrong. I’m too busy most days between parenting, work, and finishing up my last year of nursing school to let their judging gaze tear me down, until he moves into the vacant house next to the apartments I live in.
His cold, blunt observation of us doesn’t differ from any other stranger. He doesn’t know me, but he’s already painting a picture of who he thinks I am in his mind. He judges my very round belly, Lucy’s inability to leave him alone, the bags under my eyes, and the fact that I couldn’t care less what I look like anymore.
He’s a rude guy. Stays that way for months, too. Then, something happens, I’m not even sure what.
Judgmental Guy decides Lucy and me - as well as baby Eli, are worth his friendship. Turns out, Judgmental Guy isn’t too mean. Okay, he kind of still is. But he graduates to Elijah. I build an unlikely friendship with him which deems it necessary for him to start smiling around me and my kids.
I’m wrong again. Elijah isn’t rude. He’s terrifying. His strange acts of kindness are unraveling me.
Elijah is only my friend. Right?
Oh, fudge. I think I’m wrong. Again.
Single mom slow burn romance.

Hadley & Elijah!
Every once in a while, there is a book that grabs you by the heartstrings and holds you there the entire listen. This book is one of those. It's a feel good romance, with a little bit of angst and a whole lot of love. Hadley is a single mom, with a young daughter, Lucy and is very pregnant. Doing her best to provide for themselves, she is working and going to school to get her nursing degree. When her daughter picks a fight with a tattooed, motorcycle rider over a bag of chips, we know things are going down! Elijah hits it off with a bang when he fights with Lucy over chips. And now this young family is stuck in his system. Will he be able to win them over? This is my first Michelle Gross listen and I can't wait to hear more from her. This story caught my attention from the start. Big, broody man, hardworking mother and a child that had me laughing kept my interest and stole my heart! Their story is real, and the circumstances too frequent. I enjoyed their journey, the slight taboo of their age gap and the true love between the kids and Elijah! It's a wonderful listen and makes me want more from Michelle Gross.
Christopher Solon is the storyteller for this story, and he gives a fabulous performance. He finds the perfect voice for each character(amazing at Lucy!) and creates their personality true to the story. I enjoyed his narration as I usually do and always look forward to hearing others books from him.

Loved it!
One Percent of You is a wonderfully written, slow-burn romance. The storyline is realistic, sweet, heartfelt, funny, and an absolute delight to listen to. The characters are marvellous and super appealing; it was easy to become invested in them. Hadley is a strong-willed but overwhelmed pregnant single mom to Lucy, struggling to work full-time while attending nursing school. Elijah is a grumpy, cynical tattoo shop owner with a body covered in inked art. They are two neighbours who once judged each other and made assumptions based on appearances and lifestyles. When they meet and get to know and become more involved in one another's lives, they ultimately fall in love. Hadley and Elijah's story and connection felt genuine, and I enjoyed every moment of it.
Christopher Solon did a spectacular job with the narration. His depiction of the character's personalities and emotions was flawless. He brought Gross's words to life and made the story even more enjoyable. All in all, One Percent of You was a terrific listen, one I'm strongly recommending.

Fudging Brilliant!!
Right off the bat, I’d like to say, I received this free for an honest review, which always makes me nervous. I shudder at some of the drivel out there. Fortunately, This was a good one, Phew! This ticks all the boxes when it comes to my romance tropes, Single parent drama check, set in the American South, check, check with a precocious 3-year-old, and then you throw in a Piggly Wiggly?? Sign me up!!
Narrator Christopher Solon is a seasoned romance narrator but, this is my first listen of Mr. Solon's work, and yeah, he did a good job. I loved the voice that he used for Lucy. He made the transition from male to female/ child faultlessly with good differentiation, and his comic timing gets a strong thumbs up from me. This is a solo narration and an easy listen. I did this in one sitting. I will most definitely listen to his work again.

I love it!
What I like the most was the way the characters build a believable relationship that grows slow, but steady. It's difficult to find single mom novels with a realistic mom towards her love interest, but here is well done. The drama was really mild, there isn't much angst either. What we get is a slow burn romance with opposite attracts. I have to say it was cute to imagined that big man all soft for his new kids. A disclaimer though, the hero starts off a real jerk. But it's part of the beauty of his development.
Christopher Solon is a new narrator to me and I'm really glad to know his work. All the characters were distinguishable with unique voices, even the little Lucy. I like the way he played with the emotions during the scene, making everything more believable. He does all the right pauses and his pacing is good, also his voice is amazing to listen.

a great listen
I did so enjoy listening to Christopher Solon. He made the characters and story come to life. A pleasure to listen to.
This is a very enjoyable book to listen to. We start off with a slow flame as two opposites fall for each other. A single mum , working hard and a man who seems hard and judging her.

Heartwarming
The story itself was very heart warming and I’m a sucker for a HEA. There could have been way more drama though…
The audio was okay although it would have been better with a female narrator or better still male and female since the chapters switched between the two characters. With it being a male narrator it made the love scenes all the more awkward considering they were always written from her perspective. It was pretty cringey in places.
