Summary

When your father is a literal monster, the last place you want to go is home.

Unfortunately, I wasn't given much of a choice. Following a five-year exile, I'm back in my childhood bedroom. Only, this time, there are silver bars on all the windows and vault locks on the doors.

In lieu of a homecoming party, my father is hosting a barbaric tournament to determine who will win my hand in marriage. And really, who wouldn't want to spend the rest of their limitless days with a blood-thirsty vampire fresh from a cage match? This is what dreams are made of, ladies!

Things go from bad to train wreck when my only ally gets herself kidnapped and I'm left with one of my would-be boyfriends after someone loses their head - I wish I was kidding - in my bedroom. I have to save my friend, watch my back, and keep my heart from chasing after my temporary partner in crime, all without landing in the crosshairs of whatever monster is terrorizing the Eastern Court.

Ending was weak

Really enjoyed most of this book, ending let it down. I felt it was rushed for conclusions to storyline.

Cover and content at odds

Easy listen, but not whimsical, which the cover infers. Power struggle with fights and romance. Clean and a bit naive, but well executed and read. I’d also like to put in a plea for correct use of ‘nonplussed’. It’s becoming habitual to see it used in exactly opposite of the actual meaning, which is to be so surprised and confused as to be unable to react.

Good read

Never read a vampire book before but liked the title. I was pleasantly surprised and will be looking at others by author as makes a refreshing change from other romances

As others have said, ending is really weak

I was attracted by the description and I think the plot could have worked had it not been for the terrible ending, I just didn't buy it at all. The story lacked drama, I didn't feel any tension. And the romance lacked chemistry. Feel really deflated by this ending. I like the narrator and have heard her in other books but I'm not sure she could have done much more to save the story.

I got into it

I almost gave up after first 3 chapters. Too fussy about dresses and earrings. The story got much better glad I finished it.
