Summary

Having already pedalled 18,000 miles from Britain to Beijing, Charlie Walker’s homeward leg carried him a further 26,000 miles through Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

The two-and-a-half-year journey spanned the mountains and deserts of former Soviet Republics, Afghanistan on the fearful brink of foreign withdrawal, and remote corners of the Congolese jungle. From hiking through sandstorms in the Gobi desert to barreling down rapids in a dugout canoe, this perilous adventure, and Charlie’s many encounters along the way, gives insight into the past, present, and future of often-overlooked places during periods of great change.

Amazing Read

Great read and a very humble author. It’s a journey of learning and humility rather than a man trying to conquer something.

Wonderful to listen to such an amazing adventure

Fantastic information on destinations visited and I got fully immersed in the trip. Portrayed the trials and tribulations of such a trip but also the highs and kindness. Well worth a listen.

Just bloody fantastic ups and downs that entice and inspire to explore the world, there are a lot more good than bad people.

Wow - what an adventure!

Very well written and narrated book about the quite phenomenal adventures of Charlie Walker.
It’s hard to summarise his trip as there is just so much going on in the book! But I would definitely recommend this book to any travel/cycling enthusiast and I am looking forward to downloading his other book. 😊

hell of an adventure

it seemed a bit disjointed at first. but then you realise that the adventures he has taken on could fill more then one book and so he has to just give your snippets of the story.

Fantastic

A compelling and personable account of an epic journey. Charlie isn't afraid to ride his luck and has the edge of madness probably needed for this adventure. Superbly read by the author.
