Summary

Book five in the hugely successful zompoc series

En route to find their friends, Nina and Michael find so much more. After almost being killed by the Hell’s Highwaymen - a 50-strong motorcycle gang - Nina and Michael are forced to take refuge at their headquarters until Michael recovers. Finding a new purpose in life isn't easy, but Nina is realizing that she's stronger than she believes and needed more than she knows. At least that’s what Shooter - the brutish, blue-eyed president of the biker gang, keeps telling her.

Meanwhile, Mikey is trapped in the candy store. Phil is gone, so is O’Donnell, and who knows what’s happened to Ricky? All Mikey knows is that he’s in for a whole world of pain unless he can think of a way to escape before Tim and Clare turn him into their lunch.

With both of their lives hanging in the balance and heading in completely different directions, Nina and Mikey drift further apart. And it’s not just distance that separates them. Because when your fates keep pulling you away from one another, maybe it’s time to just call it a day and move on.

When walking dead meets sons of anarchy

Wow! I’m still shaking from reading this! I read it earlier this year but just recapped on the last few chapters, as I’m about to start odium VI.

Here, we see Nina and Mikey on completely different paths but their journey takes us to a whole new world of amazement! We are introduced to some fantastic new characters and I am swooning over a certain, dark and mysterious biker! Odium V continues one of my all time favourite love stories but with a surprising twist!

If you are a fan of the sons of anarchy, as well as all things post apocalyptic, or simply a thrill seeker/ horror lover, then this book is definitely for you. It’s a stark reminder of how, the end of the world as we know it, can bring out the best and worst in mankind and how losing people we love can leave a profound void in your soul. It reminds you that dark times can make you do things that make you feel really uncomfortable and can leave your heart utterly shattered. And as we are currently facing something similar with COVID-19, the Odium saga suddenly becomes very relevant (we may not have zombies, but we are definitely living in a different world; full of darkness, uncertainty, pain and a little, glimmer of hope).

Over the years, I have been really invested in this series and somehow Claire has a way of making each and every book better than the last (and I’m sure you will agree, not many writers have the ability to do this). I won’t say anymore, as I’m off to read Odium VI. I’ve been holding on precariously to the cliffhanger Odium V left me on, and am really looking forward to starting the next instalment.

Book 5 is the start of a whole new ball game

Here we go again on the crazy odium ride. We follow Nina and Michael as they head out trying to find Mikey, Adam and Joan. When they are run off the rode by an MC gang they are taken back to the club house and find themselves the safe haven they didn't know they needed, for now anyway.

I am a fan of Claire's MC romances so to see some characters I know and love worked into this series was amazing! Nina slowly comes to the realisation that after everything she has been through maybe leaving Mikey to believe she is dead is or the best. She seeks comfort in the club President Shooter and there is plenty of sexual tension building up *more side eye tot Author*

This book to me felt less intense in the pacing; but I know it's setting up a whole new world within this post apocalyptic narrative and as Mikey's situation plays out I know I was right. Things begin to get complicated for Mikey and unbeknown to them both Nina and he are so close yet so far away and boy is that frustratingly torturous but it makes for great suspense in the novel. Seeing how their paths may or may not cross again after being apart for 2 novels now is keeping me at the edge of my seat. I need book 6 right now.
