Summary
Torn between loyalty and love, a young prince will learn how much he’s willing to sacrifice as he tries to destroy the rebellion that threatens his throne in the exhilarating sequel to Bonds of Brass.
“A knockout.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)
Gal’s destiny has always been clear: Complete his training at the military academy, prove his worth as a royal successor, and ascend to the galactic throne. When a failed assassination plot against Gal sends him and Ettian - his infuriatingly enticing roommate - on a mad dash through the stars, Gal’s plans are momentarily disrupted. But he was born to rule the Umber Empire, and with Ettian by his side, nothing will stop him from returning home and crushing the growing insurgency threatening his family’s power.
Yet nothing is ever that simple in war - or in love. Gal is captured by the rebellion during a skirmish and faces public execution, his grand fate cut short. To save Gal’s life, Ettian does the unthinkable: He reveals himself as the secret heir to the fallen Archon Empire and rightful leader of the rebellion...and, therefore, Gal’s sworn enemy. Now a political hostage in this newly reignited conflict, Gal must use his limited resources to sabotage the rebellion from within, concoct an escape plan, and return to the empire he’s destined to lead. And if that means taking down the man he thought he loved?
All the better.
Critic reviews
“Oaths of Legacy is a wildly thrilling and fast-paced sci-fi adventure, and equal parts a heart-wrenching romance torn asunder by bloodrights and galactic war.” (Your Money Geek)
“Skrutskie is a master of perspective." (But Why Tho?)
“Skrutskie’s breathless, brilliantly written action sequences and tear-jerking quieter moments will keep readers enthralled. [Oaths of Legacy] is a knockout.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

Spoiled brat
Loved the first book. It was fun, light and fresh. This is not. We follow the the love interest of the first books lovable goof. And all I wonder is, what did he ever see in him in the first place? He is a vile, vining, spoiled brat. The first 75% of the story is a long and mostly uninteresting waiting for the last part of the book. The narrator is ok, but I preferred the one in the first book. It should probably be a lower score, but I do really like the setup and am still very fond of the first book to put it down more.

How dare you list this in the LGBT books
Where was your editor, this is at least 11 chapters long, slow slow slow! Please don’t consider reading this if your looking for a love story, it’s not, clearly written by someone without a clue! The story labours way too long and it’s the most terrible cliché. I have read and listened to 1000s of books in my time this ranks in the top
10 of the worst. The first one was an utter struggle, having downloaded both at the same time, I was obliged to listen. It’s taken me 3 weeks to listen to these. Considering I can get through 3 books a week. There is zero romance, no passion. The two main characters could as easily have met in a supermarket, “said hello” then carried on! That’s it! Utterly pointless and time I will never get back. Pease don’t waste your time. Clearly the previous reviewers are friends of the author?

Too bad
I miss who I was before I listened to this. The author weaved something gorgeous with the first book, and set the entire loom on fire with this follow-up. I am personally offended by how she ruined a character by making them so completely unlikeable that I'd happily be the one to press the button that expels him out to choke in space. Besides that it's incredible long-winded and the inner monologues make me zone out. I'll be back to update depending on what the third book does, but until then... awful.
