Great reading and stories. Terrible production

I have had these and other James stories read by Sir Michael Hordern on audio tapes for decades. Delighted to have them in a more durable form, but sadly the production values on this set are poor. Volume a particular issue, but a “muffled” effect also present.

Poorly produced

Michael Hordern's reading of these tales appeared on CD in late 1980s. They were superb. Those recordings have been badly rendered for Audible and sound as though the reader has his head in a bucket. it should surely have been possible to do the conversion to a higher standard.
Oddly, the other volume of Hordern reading M R James is of a high standard.

Almost perfect - but misadvertised.

An excellent narration, and would strongly recommend for any MR James fans.

Star taken off as the Audible description of the contents is:
"including 'No. 13', 'Count Magnus', 'Canon Alberic's Scrap-Book', 'The Stalls of Barchester Cathedral', 'Lost Hearts', alongside many more"

Only four of the five named stories are included (Lost Hearts isn't) and no others.
